It's not so cold in the D with this on your plate.
A newish advancement in pizza technology originating from the birthplace of pizza, the American midwest, "Detroit Pizza" is like a simplified, lighter version of a Chicago deep dish pizza. It comes in a rectangle, and although the toppings are generally the same (Homeslice's version is veggie-friendly with cheese, sauce, and spices only), the difference is in the bread which is thick in size, but light and cheesy in experience, like an extra cheesy focaccia, twice-cooked and crunchy at the edges, and gooey inside. It's like pizza-plus-grilled cheese. It's really good. It represents the direct, no-nonsense creativity of a city that voted to erect a Robocop statue.
The Detroit Pizza is only on the menu Wednesdays at Homeslice, starting tonight. It takes a bit longer to make (around 20 mins), so keep that in mind. Place your order and get a beer. Pies are good to split with four people and are 180rmb.
They're also kicking out the jams with Detroit music playing on the stereo to complete the look -- Motown, Insane Clown Posse, Richie Hawtin, things like that.
Homeslice is in Found 158. 158 Julu Lu, near Ruijin Yi Lu.
