... The Rock Festival has always been about the music and much much more. This weekend's Shanghai 1234 Music Festival
, the first of its kind in Shanghai, aims to be a yearly showcase of China's rock bands and maybe someday take up its place alongside the world's greatest rock festivals. If it's possible anywhere, it is possible right here in Shanghai, and the organizers are aiming to provide music and much much more to the participants in the 2-day festival at Sanjia Beach.
The argument that "Shanghai's live rock scene bites compared to Beijing's" gets shelved at least for a weekend, as Shanghai hosts over 25 bands from all over country, most of which are from right here in the city! Following hot on the heels of the last week's Splash! event, the Shanghai 1234 Music Festival spells out that Shanghai has a thriving live rock scene and its definitely here to stay. Other evidence? Over the summer we've seen great acts at a number of venues such as Yu Yin Tang, Tanghui, and even Bonbon, a surprisingly great place for a rock show, where Ferris Wheel and Banana Monkey recently rocked the house down! GigShanghai.com
is right there as well, providing up-to-the-minute information and podcasts regarding many of the city's live gigs. The rock beast is alive in Shanghai, and its energy is awesome!
