MP3 Monday is a weekly SmartShanghai column, serving up mp3s from bands living and making music in China (or coming to China, or thinking about coming to China, or whatever). Copyright holders: if you would like your song removed, please email us here, and we'll honor your request promptly.

Halloween may be over a week away, but all the best parties are this weekend so we’re going to be the first to kick off the season of the witch with some songs in Satan’s service. For all you sour puss Shanghai rats out there complaining about how Halloween is just a played out excuse for bars like Zapata’s and Bar Rouge to get lame chicks to dress even more skanky, well you’re right. However it’s also a time to pull out the darkest songs from your hard drive, burn a mix tape, and throw a house party with awesome appetizers like Deviled Green Eggs served with Brew-Ha-Ha punch.
Those Clampdown boys are being resurrected to throw this Ethnic Pagan Disco on Friday. For those of you who don’t know, Clampdown is a rock’n’roll dance party thrown by DJs Moomaw and Olson, which pretty much kept that bar Not Me alive for two years until its demise last summer. They are teaming up with a group of dark artists and dancers who will be slapping on black light body paint and getting weird to your favorite indie dance tunes. The party will open with Banana Monkey playing a Satan-inspired live set. Here’s one of his tracks and a Dead Kennedys mood-setter.

To those who are about to rock, we salute you. Yes, this is the one you’ve been waiting for (or fearing) all year. Yuyintang’s annual Halloween tribute show is back with a bunch of bro-hammers ready to lay down epic guitar riffs and cock rock antics. There are four bands dressing up as, and covering Queens of the Stone Age, System of a Down, Black Sabbath and Weezer. I’m not going to post a System of a Down track on Mp3 Monday… not fucking ever. However, here are a few teaser tracks for this Saturday’s gruesome gig.

For those of you who worship at the altar of bass, there are a couple of necromancing-dancing Halloween electro parties this weekend. STD’s Five Year Anniversary is bringing out French producer Surkin along with Boys Noize artist Strip Steve. Throw about 10 other DJs on top of that and you got yourself a corpse banger. Then the Ice Cream Truck crew has Swedish artist Savage Skulls playing a night of undead beats to move your zombie feet.

Finally, if you’re just not into the dark spirit and want to go to a good live show with original music, AM444 is throwing an album release party this Friday at Shelter. The new album is called Rooms and you get it free with entry. Here are a couple select tracks from the album, enjoy...
This column is written by DJ Sacco, who runs Uptown Records, Shanghai's dedicated vinyl shop. Ironically, they don't sell Mp3s or dabble in anything digital, instead they have 7" and 12", EPs and LPs from rock to electronic, rare pressings, DJ equipment and band merchandise. Find them in an old bomb shelter at 115 Pingwu Lu.
