MP3 Monday: Demon Slayer

MP3 Monday is a weekly SmartShanghai column, serving up mp3s from bands living and making music in China (or coming to China, or thinking about coming to China, or whatever). Copyright holders: if you would like your song removed, please email us here, and we'll honor your request promptly.
Hot, twinkling blippage on a cold Monday morn... today’s downloads are from Demon Slayer (nee Dan Nguyen), a visual artist/producer out of California headlining this Saturday's Antidote party at The Shelter.
A sweet-ass band name / producer moniker always helps with these things, we think, as does a short, succinct biography. Oh and good for him. He's got both. Here's Demon Slayer's bio:
“DMN SLYR is a creative designer, artist, producer, DJ and musician from Southern California who has been making music since 1999 and has been making art since he was a small child... Demon Slayer has shared the stage with Daedelus, Free the Robots, The Gaslamp Killer and many other notables in the West Coast electronic music scene. Dan has had art exhibitions with Barry McGee, Raymond Pettibon, Jeff Soto and other internationally known artists."
These tracks are from two separate digital releases from Demon Slayer that came into being at the end of 2010. Music is arpeggio romance, California trills and vibrations, crunchy chips, and smoky pad fantasies. If you like your electronica to explore space in twinkling crystal ships, you should get down with this. If you like to ruminate and draw painstakingly done, intricately ornate ink pen drawings, this is your thing as well. Conversely, to relate it to China musiks, if you’re a fan of the Shanshui revolution, feels like you'd like this too.

Demon Slayer's in for a live set on hardware, coming in from playing a club called School last weekend in Beijing. Anyways, looks like he's got some wonderful toys, pulled together by the ubiquitous, mighty, mighty microKORG. Here's a list of gear he's using in his compositions if you’re up for geeking out a bit.
You can check out more of his stuff and purchasing info at his Bandcamp page, and he’s also got a SoundCloud page, if you prefer to consume in that format.
And here's some of Nguyen's visual art works, which are well worth a gander too.
Coolio inglesias. Direct from California, Demon Slayer at Antidote this Saturday. Support comes in the form of locally based producers Sickstar and SIG, also pushing the expanded, atmospheric hip hop beats.
