Boutique Beat: Fall Fashions

By Cristina McComic, Nov 7th, 2011 | In Shopping

Poised to unleash its bone-chilling, teeth-chattering wrath in a matter of weeks, another Shanghai winter is on its way. Be sure to see Fall out in style with our pick of the best boutique seasonal fashions in store now...

Raffles Privato

L231, XinTianDi Style, 245 Madang Lu

Located on the second floor of Xintiandi Style, Raffles Privato carries new and unique clothing designs from up and coming local Chinese designers who attend or have attended Raffles Institute of Design. The same school that spawned local fashion star Helen Lee carries the new experimental pieces of her classmates. From wool sweater dresses, bright yellow pant suites, and asymmetrical black vests, Raffles Privato carries possibly the best of Chinese-born and bred local designers -- so new that it came straight from the designer's hands, onto the rack, and into your hands.

The Fall collection carries a series of toned down taupe and beige colors mixed with classic black. Plenty of thick materials and wools for the autumn season.

Heirloom

1F, 78 Xinle Lu

The Shanghai born-and-bred label of two Chinese-American masterminds from both the east and west coasts of the US, has provided the every day woman her dream come true accessory. Their line of autumn handbags were inspired by the 1970s Charlie’s Angels-style strong and feminine feel, along with a retro twist. Heirloom bags are made of fine leathers, python skin, and stingray and are finished with tassels and bolted buckles alike. Careful attention was paid to the utility of the bag -- there are pockets and hidden zippers and hooks for almost anything you can thing of: keys, wallets, cosmetics, and even sim cards. The ideal item to hold whatever money you have left after purchasing one...

Moca Chen

312 Nanchang Lu, near Maoming Nan Lu

Freshly opened three weeks ago on Nanchang road, Taiwanese designer Moca Chen opens up her flagship store, holding both her own designs and imports from Korea and Japan. Presented as more of a down-and-dirty French Concession hipster store, Moca Chen carries colorful scarves, tasseled jackets from Korea, and crocodile-skinned bags. For the chilly autumn and winter seasons coming up, she designed a number of simple, comfy, fuzzy wool sweaters and shapely bowler hats.

God 'a mercy! 太贵了! Who in their right minds would pay such prices? Print off the photos and take them to the Fabric Market where they'll run 'em up for a tenth of the price.

courtneyconching, Nov 9th, 2011

seriously! who can afford this?

agha, Nov 9th, 2011

Moca Chen prices are correct, common !

this could benefit from a little diversity in both price range and actual boutiques..surely there are more than three new places to shop where there's more than crocodile leather bags and gray/black draped sweaters for sale?
