Shanghai sees lower crime than most big cities, but shit still goes down. Each week we bring you our favorite crime stories from Shanghai and the surrounding areas. This week, a woman in Chongming tries to blow up a gambling spot after losing 130,000rmb and some thieves use low-tech methods to steal your dongxi.

Gambling Problems

Like prostitution, although gambling is illegal de jure in China, plenty of parlors exist around town. Recently, a woman in Chongming went mad when she lost over 130,000rmb trying to win big on some gambling machines. At one point she thought she was about to win 6,000rmb but the machine malfunctioned.

Angry over her losses, she hit the female owner in the head, causing her to fall down. Then she came back with glass bottles filled with gunpowder extracted from fireworks and tried to blow the place apart. First she beat one of the machines with an iron bar then threatened to detonate the explosives.
