[My Weekender] with Kate Noble

Good friends, good times with Kate Noble - Jun 13, 08

Kate is a freelance make-up artist in Shanghai. Check out her webpage here.

Being a freelance make-up artist in Shanghai, I don't always have the luxury of total freedom during the weekends, so when I was asked to write this, I decided to combine bits and pieces of recent weekends to make up my ideal weekend.

The first thing I would usually do on Friday night would be to meet up with my BFF Matsume, so she can give me a fabulous blow dry at her salon Beijing Hair Culture... vanity is a sin I know, but when you work in the fashion industry you will be judged! We'll then take a short walk down the street to meet up with more friends at Enoteca, and indulge in some tapas and a few bottles of their delicious wines. ( I originally wrote "a glass of wine" but come on, who am I kidding here? That wine is GOOD... and nicely priced, we never leave after just one glass).

So, having reached a satisfactory state of intoxication, I would follow my posse wherever they might want to go, maybe checking out the bars in Xintiandi, or checking out the hot men at LC's gay bar. Wherever we go, if we stick together, is gonna be fun for sure. I should mention here that I am not actually gay, but if Jain is out with us, he'll evolve into a hot mess and demand we join him there.

Being a faghag is not easy my friends, but it does allow you to get away with sashaying in and out of clubs singing Mariah's "Touch My Body" in unison.

Saturday, I like to sleep in with my lovely cat Beans and enjoy the morning sunshine with a coffee in my garden. Afterwards, I head over to my friend June's yoga class at SoulDancing studio, and if she really motivates my lazy ass, I'll stay for the salsa class too!

Being friends with Hien, he always has new restaurants and bars he wants to check out, but my all time favorite brunch garden would have to be Cotton's, mainly because its near my home -- and did I mention I'm lazy?

I spend a lot of my spare time searching for fashion updates, whether that be online or down the street in the Xinle Lu boutiques... if I'm feeling extremely patient, I might even take a stroll around Qipu Lu in search of the perfect shoe.

The highlight of this weekend is definitely going to be the kick start of Riviera Events' legendary pool parties. The main reason for going is the rare chance of seeing Benoit's smooth naked chest... wait... we see that all the time in the party pictures. Well it's a nice site anyway, and I'll never get tired of it! (Editor's note: The pool party is canceled this weekend, suckers.)

After swimming up an appetite, we'll probably head down to Taikang Lu to feast at my all time favorite restaurant in town, Alyssa's Thai Food Station.

When your living with City Weekends recently voted "best DJ," you feel somewhat obligated to attend his events, but since he is out of town I can go crazy at MAO on tequila shots! Although, it might be a good opportunity to join a certain advice columnist in a certain oil massage she has spent the last four years convincing me to try out... nah, on second thoughts, I'd chose the tequila and proceed to embarrass myself with my sprinkler moves on the dance floor before falling asleep in the back of a taxi with Xinjiang lamb kebabs hanging out of my mouth.

If the weather's nice on Sundays, I'll invite a small group to join me at home for a late lunch. Usually this is a chance to chill out with friends and sizzle some sausages on my BBQ. Not much happens actually, a phone call back to Oz to touch base with my family and before you know it my Sunday is almost over. When evening comes, a regular Sunday crowd arrives at JZ Club to listen to our mate Coco entertain us! There's always new and interesting people to be met at JZ as well, which is why we love going there so much.

That's pretty much it. Damn, the pool parties postponed? I guess I'll stay home and poke people on facebook instead.
