[My Weekender] with Juli de No
Wine, shopping, cafes with Juli Deno - Sep 05, 08
Juli de No is the graphic designer for SmartShanghai and responsible for all the lovely pictures, logos, and graphics on the website.
Even though I've only been in Shanghai for a few months, I'm already getting a bit of a routine in terms of what I do with my weekends. Every Friday is the same: after finishing the
SmartShanghai newsletter at around 4:30pm, myself and my work mates from SmartShanghai go to
el Willy's next door for their happy hour deal. Pints of beer for 20rmb and I can catch up with my fellow Spaniard Willy, who just got back from his holidays. I like to have a nice dinner on Fridays to signal the end of the working week, and will probably end up at
Bonito with friends, opening up hundred of bottles of wine and hanging out on their patio. Unless the weather isn't good for it, and then maybe we'll head upstairs.
I suppose we could go anywhere after dinner and drinks at Bonito. I like going to People 6 bar if it's going to be a more laid-back evening, but if people are in the mood for clubbing we'll end up at
Babyface. Yeah, Babyface... I like "Chinese clubs" more than "western" clubs like the ones on the Bund. I like the music too at Babyface and it's not pretentious. People are more honest and just looking to have a good time. At least I think so anyways. So I end up at Babyface at least once on the weekend...
This Saturday, I'm supposed to go shopping with a friend who is looking to buy a new dress. She saw
this article and liked the designs, so we're going to try to find her something nice. Afterwards, I think I'm going to try to visit my friend Jon Alana in his new restaurant Kuluska at Kangdring Lu and Xikang Lu . After that I think I'll have a drink and watch the fishes at my favorite bar,
Madrid Cafeteria Y Bar on Maoming Lu, which I think has the best design in the city. I don't have much planned yet for Saturday night. Maybe I'll just take it easy and try to have an early night watching some Korean or HK movies with Fang! (Best moment of my weekend...).
Like everyone else, I do the Sunday brunch thing, but I usually end up at Bonito, which is cheaper (250rmb) than the expensive hotel brunches, and the music is nice. Tapas and free-flow Sangria too and I'm sure we'll open many liters of wine again.
