Halloween Night Events

Brrraaaaaaaaaiinnnsss... - By Morgan, Oct 29, 08

It's that time of year again... that special time when we all come together, put on our freakiest, silliest, sexiest costumes and bask in the utter confusion that we cause our European acquaintances (Vas est Halloveen? We don have diz in Awwstria! Cvazy!).

Ladies, you should be finalizing this year's variation of "slut" -- nurse, catholic school girl, whatever -- and jock types get that drag costume together because you know how much fun you have when you "dress like a chick." Weird, drunk Korean dudes? Do you have your masks from the movie Scream? Yes?

Here's some things that are going on for Satan's birthday, Halloween night, this Friday:

Classy

Decadent Devil's Den @ New Heights

New Heights has put together a bash fit for a prince of darkness. For 550rmb per person, groups of four get a BBQ buffet dinner, a bottle of red wine, and free-flow on booze for the after party starting at 10pm. The Halloween party kicks off at 10pm with free flow booze (300rmb if you skipped the dinner), and costumed guests vying for a grand prize for best dressed: a voucher to the Cupola worth 3000rmb. Stylin'.

Gothic Chic @ Lounge 18

Lounge 18 keeps the Halloween festivities going all weekend long -- Friday and Saturday -- with "goth chic" dance performances from uh... dancers and stuff. Free entry from 9pm onward if you come in costume. Loungin'. I expect at least 50 people with those angel/pixie wings will be there at any one time during the weekend. Angel wings and shutter shades? Over 20.

Parties

Shanghaiist Halloween Party @ Shanghai Studio

A yearly staple, the Shanghaiist's Halloween party gets packed to the gills with costumed attendees, and if you've got a good idea this year that you really want to show off, this is the place to do it. Grand prize for best costume is ten billz from Sherpas. More info on the Shanghaiist though. They've been doing some promotion for it. Cover: 50rmb (incl one drink). And pizza. Shaazam.

Here's a tip though: show up early -- last year it was too packed to even get in around 1am-ish. Great party tho.

ILS Halloween Reopening Party @ I Love Shanghai

Welcome to Jing' An baby! You're gonna die! ILS "officially opens" in Jing' An on Halloween night, and they've got a great yearly Halloween party going as well.

So it's like a perfect storm of ILS parties. This year is costumed freaks and DJ Sexy Paul getting freaky on the decks. Disco freaky most likely. Probably the scariest thing going on in the whole city.

And because Jing' An is a residential neighbourhood, it's in close proximity to houses that need egging and TPing. 150rmb all you can drink. Yowza!

Clubbing

Deep Dish @ M2

Switching to more proper-ish club events with these famous DJs, don't forget that ½ of Deep Dish is playing at M2 Dubfire. I'm guessing this one is more for people who really want to see this Dubfire character and Halloweeness will be restricted to girls wearing angel wings and guys wearing devil horns. Meh...

Magic Garden Halloween Party @ G Plus

If you're looking for good DJs, club dancefloors, AND a place that won't make you feel like a knob in your ridiculous Halloween costume, Magic Garden is throwing a big bash in Club G Plus with the usual suspects on the turntables -- Kodama, Solaris, and Yuta -- as well as extensive Halloweenish shit like smoke, scary decoration, costumes, etc. 100rmb to get in but that gets you five drinks.

Live Music

It's a scientific fact that Satan's favorite music is rock n roll, and this Halloween, there's a bunch of bands playing just that. To wit:

STD: Live and Undead II @ Yuyintang

The sequel to the Live and Undead party last year, this year's addition features punk band SUBS, Boys Climbing Ropes, and a Clash tribute band called "Yellow Riot." Expect sweatiness and packed-ness. Cover is 60rmb. Starts 10ish I think.

Mysterious Metal @ Harley's

Making a rare re-emergence on the live music radar is Harley's bar in the south end of the city, hosting some as of yet unnamed metal bands for Halloween. Satan may *like* rock n roll, but he absolutely loves metal. Cover is 35rmb.

Wait, that would be illegal, so it's not "cover" per se. More like it's 35rmb to rent and use the doorway at Harley's this Friday. And you're in luck because some metal bands will be playing there just for free. Get there at 9ish.

Red Hot Chinese Peppers @ The Blues Room

Few bands in town are as well-named as the "Red Hot Chinese Peppers," a RHCP tribute band featuring the members of JQKA. I can't think of a better name. Can you? Blood Sugar Chinese Magic? Suck My Chinese?

Anyways, they'll be playing the timeless classics of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and its 80rmb to get in. Drink deals and shots.
