By Morgan Short, Nov 24th, 2008 | In Dining

Since the dawn of time, Americans have been stuffing their faces every November 27th for reasons that no one can even really remember anymore. Shanghai, like the rest of the world, just loves to accommodate Americans doing American things, and thus this Thursday, several lovely restaurants are trotting out excessively lavish feasts for Thanksgiving to match all degrees of thankfulness.
Here are some:
I Love Shanghai: Thanksgiving Dinner
Giving thanks for a new roof over their drunken heads is the cheerful folks down at I Love Shanghai, and they're preparing a thanksgiving feast with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, grilled vegetables, and pumpkin pie from 7:30pm to 10:30pm. It's actually the last Thursday of November in the USA, whatever date it falls on, (at least since Congress made it official in the 40's). In Canada it is observed in October, (same feast, different seasonings; USA=Sage Canada=Savory). It is a big holiday on both sides of the 49th parallel, and even by our standards a dinner blow-out with left-overs to last a week.
Rarely however would you find any of the creations that are touted by the restaurants in Shanghai, and in 5 years trying the gourmet turkey here, I have yet to sample even one that would pass muster amongst turkey aficionados, seems there are plenty of fine food chefs in SH, but very few versed in traditional American style. I'll keep trying though, and thanks for some new ideas on where to go, (we'll try the Westin this year, as they seem to hit the US style closer than most places in town). Your descriptions are great and have me anxious to forge ahead to some of the places you have outlined.
