A couple more interesting live acts are performing in Shanghai at The Shelter this Thursday, and we would be remiss in not once again taking a short moral interlude to disperse more MP3s so that you can have a couple days to rotate the tracks and see if any of it interests you. Plus who reads art and restaurant reviews anyways. Nuts to the usual fodder.
Celebrating one year of delving into the experimental side of hip hop, Karma Koma, the "brainchild" of Uprooted Sunshine's Drunk Monk and Cha-cha are putting on a special show this Thursday featuring live trip hop act KbN from Taiwan. If you've been missing out all year on this night because you have to work on Friday, I'd recommend you make it down for this one (really -- I'm not just saying that), because these KbN dudes sound pretty interesting. They do improvisational-ish, live trip hop with overtures to electronica proper. Check out the em pea sans for yourself.

In addition to doing film scores and playing a bunch of festivals I've never heard of, they were also at this year's SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. As one of the premier rock festivals in the world, that's a huge deal for a group from Taiwan, and they were the first from the island to ever be included. Good for them.

But, hey, that's not all. Local DJs, R3 and LON, will also be supporting KbN by doing some of their own original productions as well, so you get to check out what the locals have been up to. Here is some MP3s from S.T.D. promoter R3, who deeee jaaays regularly at the S.T.D. parties, Antidote parties, as well as the S.T.D. "Digital Love" series, which will be returning to LOgO bar December 20. Rumours abound of R3 doing a more straight forward band project that's slated to hit a Shanghai stage next year sometime.
Early reports peg the sound as a "combination of Fergie and Jesus Christ."

Congrats to Drunk Monk and Cha Cha on one year of Karma Koma, and for resisting the urge to throw on Fiddy all year long. His pull is powerful.
As a side note Lil' Wayne has eight Grammy nominations. Eight. Just FYI.
KbN performs at Karma Koma this Thursday. Support from R3 and LON. Starts 9pm. Cover: 30rmb.
