We¡¯re taking a sharp and harried divergence from the rawk today to cast an unflinching gaze onto this weekend¡¯s Antidote LIVE party, featuring Danish techno-pop imbecilic duo Reptile and Retard
Unless you¡¯re extremely new to Shanghai, you¡¯ve probably heard of, and probably been to, a number of Antidote events in the past. As one of Shanghai¡¯s first ¡°alternative¡± parties, Antidote was originally intended to give locally-based producers a forum to show off experimental blips and bleeps. From the lowly dungeon of C¡¯s, Antidote has grown in prominence and notoriety not only in Shanghai, but in Asia in general, and party organizers are often cool hunted in mainstream western media as representatives of China¡¯s burgeoning ¡°alternative culture¡±.
In its current form, the Antidote parties consist of a more low-key monthly event at C¡¯s, a monthly party at The Shelter (often featuring out-of-town electronic acts), and constant out-of-town shows in places like Wuhan, Hangzhou, and Beijing.
The MP3s today are in anticipation of their party this Saturday at The Shelter. Along with the familiar line-up of locally-based DJs -- Trix, Ozone, Blaise Deville, SAL, B6 -- they¡¯ve also got a live performance by Danish duo Reptile and Retard.
Shrouded in equal parts mystery and idiocy, Reptile and Retard allegedly play ¡°electro-grunge nu-rave balls-out key-tar'deness.¡± Take that for what you will.

By way of fleshing out this week¡¯s offerings, here¡¯s a mix from local gadfly Trix, who will also be performing this Saturday. Trix is drawing on the television career of erstwhile Poison singer Bret Michaels as inspiration.
