Eat the Poor
By Morgan Short, May 7th, 2009 | In Community

As I grow older I find my taste for the finer things in life growing in almost direct proportion to my blossoming disdain for the lower classes, unwashed masses, and baser social elements.
It's becoming all the more difficult to even leave the soothing confines of the Kee Club, wherein members with comparable pedigree to mine whistle away the days betting on things, debating the finer points of Social Darwinism, transforming washer maids into debutantes for a larf, having things bespoken, traveling around the world in 80 days (or less), hunting the most deadly game (man), and heaping savage but righteously capital abuse on the closest member of the wait staff.
You call this a Lager Shandy, you insufferable ass-dragging goon?
If you find yourself sharing similar predilections, allow me to direct your esteemed attention to a few lovely sounding events that might tide us over until the next Millionaire's Fair:
The 2009 Consul General's Polo Cup
Date: May 29-30
Location: Nine Dragons Hill Polo Club

The largest Polo event in China, the Consul General's Cup is a Polo tournament (the real kind, not this intolerable charade) featuring nine teams: The Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Spain, China (Shanghai), China (Beijing) and Switzerland. Taking place at the Nine Dragon Hills Polo Club, they've also arranged tertiary amusement in the form of an international bazaar, children's activities, live music, competitions, and a beer garden.
Personally, I will be travelling to the event by ayi, but they're also arranging public busses (gah!) to the tournament from 1045 Huaihai. They're even inviting *shudder*... non-members.
All the information and the whats, whys, hows, and what have yous is available on their website.
Casa de Tabaco 2009 Cigar Tasting
Date: June 25-27
Location: Grand Ballroom, Shangri-La Pudong

This came in by carrier pigeon this morning, and although it's still a little far off, I'm already salivating in anticipation. This June, the world's top premium tobacco and tobacco accessory manufacturers will meet in Shanghai for three days to hob nob, converse on the emerging market for high quality cigars in China, and, most importantly, smoke some fine, fine cigars. As I'm always up for a satisfying smoke after crushing things under my custom footwear, expect me there on both days.
All the details are available on their webpage.
Whiskey LIVE
Date: May 8-9
Location: Shanghai Exhibition Center

Perhaps you've heard about this little whiskey sock-hop -- tickets for this premium whiskey event are available on SmartTicket, hidden discreetly among all the other proletariat diversions. Whiskey Live is the world's premier whiskey tasting show, taking place in 15 countries across the world, including the USA, Scotland, Paris, London and Japan. Look for me ensconced therein, sampling away with sporting and reckless abandon, quoting liberally from the works of the poet Shelley.
Percy Bysshe.
