Shanghai is tumbling head-long into the "busy season" for high-profile booking -- people like Owl City, the (International) Noise Conspiracy, and Kid Koala have already confirmed dates -- and rumors abound of even more big names coming to Shanghai in the near future (i.e. a very awesome Japanese post rock band and a very awesome hair metal band called Skid Row -- askdh&*&ASkFsS3^&%68).

In addition to all that, one of last year's most successful promoters, Free The WAX (they put on DJ Vadim and Dorian Concept, among others), are back from summer vacation and have planned a slew of shows in the next few months. They're kicking it all off with a performance this Friday from Samiyam at Kathleen's 5. Samiyam is the first of three planned concerts featuring acts from the LA-based Brainfeeder label. After Samiyam is The Gaslamp Killer in November, and to round it all off, Flying Lotus is coming by the end of the year. So big time.

Here��s some Samiyam MP3s. He does the hip hop beats with the Nintendo-ey sounds, played on a Roland SP404 sampler. Neat-o. In 2008, Samiyam released his debut album, Rap Beats Vol. 1, and these two tracks are from that. The last one is a new-ish, unreleased track

Friday's show won't just have Samiyam there; Brainfeeder co-founder Ques will be on hand as well, doing live graffiti while Samiyam plays. The whole thing is taking place at the Kathleen's 5 patio, which is absolutely lovely, I assure you.
