More MP3s: Sssighborggg and Mmmore

By Morgan Short, Oct 14th, 2009 | In Nightlife

There's a real exxxxplooosion of music this week in Shanghai. Here's some more background info and MP3 downloads so you can stay on top of it all. The Shanghai JZ Festival ends at 11pm on the Friday and Saturday in Century Park, and then the jazz continues back across the Huangpu at late night performances at Cotton Club and JZ Club. The Electrograss Stage -- that's the electronic/dance stage -- is also doing an after party for their portion of the festival, and they're teaming up with Antidote to do block party-type thing at Dada and LOgO on Xingfu Lu.

Good times. I bet the residents of Xingfu Lu are super chuffed about the whole thing.

The Xingfu Lu Shaker starts at 10pm on Saturday night, with the main act being Seoul-based live chiptunish/electro act Sssighborggg. They're down at LOgO. It's a bit Nintendo-ey, a bit math-ey, a bit Aphex Twin-ey and quite neat-o-ey. Live keys and drums. Good stuff. Here's some tracks from them.

Opening up for them is a two-piece punk/prog/post rock band out of Hanzghou called The Phoenix Prestige. They do harder soundscape rock -- atmospheric layer, pounding explosions, and the like. Despite living and playing in Hangzhou for a couple of years now, this is their first time in Shanghai. They've just released their first three-song EP called The Bullet Catch from which these songs are from. Good stuff.

As you flip back and forth between Dada and LOgO, also try to catch Slick 50, an Australian bass-happy, booty rhythm live DJ performer on his way through China to Spain to play some festivals there. Check out his MySpace here. He's been in Shanghai under the radar for the past week or so, make sure you catch him before he goes to Europe.

Also performing on the night is DJ Youdai, a big radio/club DJ from Beijing, Shanghai house DJ Dave K, The Melkman, and Mr. Tsang.

There you go. The "Antidote pres. The Electrograss Stage Shanghai JZ Festival After Party feat. Sssighborggg, The Phoenix Prestige, Slick 50, DJ Youdai, Dave K, The Melkman, Mr. Tsang, and Guests" is on at LOgO and Dada. Starts 10pm. Cover is 50rmb. That gets you into both bars.

Crazy stuff. If you're up for it, you can be knee-deep in the shit from 1pm to about 5am this Saturday.
