MP3 Monday: Eli Smith
By Morgan Short, Oct 19th, 2009 | In Nightlife

Today's MP3 are from Eli Smith, an L.A.-based DJ, producer, promoter, and grand poobah of independent electronic label-on-the-rise, So Sweet Records.
So Sweet Records have a couple acts on their roster that have enjoyed (almost?) mainstream success in the past few years, including Toronto aggravators Crystal Castles and handsome boy Le Castle Vania. They've also released remixes of acts like Hot Chip and Simian Mobile Disco. So Sweet has translated this success into other areas, and are now a "lifestyle brand", with dealings in management, clothing lines, production, and event promoting. On the promoting side of things, they've done stages at a bunch of festivals featuring the world's most fab electro/indie acts (i.e. Digitalism, Diplo, Boys Noize). The had stages at that big ass Electric Daisy Carnival and the Nocturnal Festival, not to mention the Sundance Film FestivalEli Smith is on an South East Asian tour, spreading the So Sweet word -- snappin' neck and cashin' checks -- and he's playing Not Me this Friday, October 23. For more on the Brave New World Tour, check out the website here.
If you like that action, make sure you slot the next few S.T.D. shows into your calendar: YACHT @ Yuyintang on October 30 and The Toxic Avenger at Not Me on November 6.
S.T.D. pres. Eli Smith this Friday at Not Me. Support from the S.T.DJs R3 and Kidplastic. Cover: 30rmb.
