Halloween Events SCARE-view

By Morgan Short, Oct 30th, 2009 | In Nightlife

It's a good year for Halloween this year because it falls on a Saturday night, which is just the way Satan likes it. Most years, Halloween ends up on like a Wednesday or something, and so no one really knows which is the right night to dress up.

But this year, make no mistake: it's on Saturday. And even on Friday as well if you're super keen. Let¡¯s have a look in our crystal ball and see what's on for Saturday, Halloween night. Mwah-hahahhahH!H!!!! BLooaah!

Parties

VIP VIP The Shelter VIP @ The Shelter

The Shelter is doing a big party to give you good feeling and keep you high in the place to be all night long sexy Hip Hop beats for hip hop people in a place where everyone gets a feeling like a VIP with a special surprises all night long special guests and prises for most sexy lady and handsome man and frist 100 guest free bubbly. International DJs: Siesta, Elnomo, Deville, V-Nutz, Drunk Monk. Dress code: Scary. Sensual. Glamour.

Halloween Rampage @ Not Me

Not Me Voltrons with the Shanghaiist for their yearly Halloween throw-down. Their yearly party is something of a staple in Shanghai lo these many years, and they've got a full evening planned. Pre-party Zombie walk (info here), dance floor Disco/Electro/Electroklash from Baiju Robot, Kidplastic, and R3, and a live show from MNO Show. MNO Show are a two-piece heavy synth act. One of the dudes plays a microKorg that's been cut in half. It's quite good. They've also built a little mini city in the club, and robots and dinosaurs are going to smash it. Shash-ey, smash-ey. Cover: 30rmb.

Heaven & Hell: That's Shanghai Halloween Party @ LAN

More expat media stepping into da club. That's Shanghai -- that's the one that's been sitting on the back of your shitter for what seems like forever getting all wrinkly -- is hosting what they're humbly touting as "The Biggest Halloween Party in Town". It's called "Heaven & Hell" and it's at LAN on the Bund. A Heaven-themed room, a Hell-themed room -- cover at the door is 150rmb, and that gets you free flow booze from 9pm to midnight, dance, dance, dancing, prizes for best costumes, and more, more, more.

ShanghaiLGBT Pub Crawl @ Eddy's Bar

The biggest and baddest of the lot, the ShangahiLGBT, are hosting their yearly booze bus gay bar crawl with a virtual armada of buses -- four in total -- hitting up every gay bar in town that hasn't been burned down or busted by the fuzz. Expect this one to be a mind-eraser. It kicks off at Eddy's Bar at 8pm and blasts through Shanghai with glitter-tinged insanity... All. Nite. Long. Tickets are now 150rmb, and you call Dylan to book your spot (139 1755 6045). When you get to Shanghai Studio (they're also doing a separate Halloween bash) make sure you stop in and say, "Hi Guy" to the DJ -- he'll make out with you totally for free, no questions asked.

Clubbin'

Magic Garden Halloween Party @ G Plus

The Magic Garden army invades G Plus for their yearly Trance party blow-out. With attendance numbers topping the tens of millions in years previous, if you're looking for BIG CLUBBING on Halloween, this one is a safe bet. All manner of freaky Trance on the decks from the Magic Garden regulars Solaris and Kodama, and Yuta is flying in from Japan to be on the bill. Expect lasers, glow sticks, and tons of neon alien shit on the walls. Take about 16 of the blue ones and head down. Entry is 80rmb with two drinks. E-mail contact@magicgardenconcept.com for guest list.

Disco Inferno @ Bar Rouge

Le Bar Rouge, located at... I think the Bund, is doing a 70-s disco-themed Halloween party. Expect ample variations on the "70s Disco Guy" costume. Creepy. And I think they're setting that bar on fire! Disco Inferno. Death Disco on the stereo all night long and if you go before 12:30 and tell them the password "John Travolta", you get in free. 100rmb after. That's not a bad password, but I would have gone with, "Who wants to split on some coke with me?"

As a password...

Because it's a "Disco" party, you see? Because it's a Disco party.

Classy, Classy

Eyes Wide Shut Halloween Party @ Lounge18

Lounge18 has gotten so popular after their re-opening that you have to either book a table or call in on the guest list to confirm entry. This party is one of those. Plan ahead if you're going to be putting on those light-up devil horns and/or angel wings and heading down. DJ Partyphone on the decks, live dancers (interpretive?), a free bottle of champagne for best dressed, and so much more. Dress code is "kinky darkness", which is how I rock it seven days a week. It would be just "kinky darkness" business as usual for me. Email here for the guestlist: guestlist@lounge18.com

Doll-icious Dress Up Party @ Barbie Store B-Bar

Nothing beats getting blitzed in a toy store. It just makes you feel like you're really doing "life" up right. The B-Bar in the Barbie palace on Huaihai is hosting a ¡°pink¡± Halloween Party (in reference to the color "pink", and not communist sympathizers in the 1950¡¯s or gay people). If you come dressed up like Barbie and/or Ken and don¡¯t suck at it they¡¯ll give you a prize. Games and assorted Barbie stuff all night long. 120 open bar. An open bar deal is just the kind of empowerment that Barbie is all about.

Holy and Evil Halloween Special @ Sin

Sin gets scary with their "Holy and Evil" angels and demons Halloween party. It's a heaven and hell affair in the garden of good and evil. 42Below Vodka on hand keeping things wasted. Dancers, prizes, and "sexy surprises in the confession room" -- ah, memories of Catholic school... that takes me back. 100rmb cover. Free for ladies. Free for guys before 10:30pm.

Live Music

Metal Gig for Halloween @ Harley's

There's only one thing Satan likes more than corrupting souls and that's HEAVY METAL MUSIC. Harley's hosts their yearly Halloween Metal night with a slew of locally based Death, Doom, Nu, Speed, Thrash, Grind Metal acts, including Fearless, Screaming Christ (not just a clever name), Drawn in Suffering and more. Expect to BE KILLED. Cover is 40rmb. Starts 9pm.

24 Hours w/ Rustic and The Snots @ Yuyintang

Beijing three-piece 24 Hours plays a show celebrating the release of their new record on Maybe Mars, No Party People. They play Indie/Dance Rock. Support is Beijing-punk band Rustic, who seem kind of like The Vandals to me. The Snots are a local garage rock band. Cover: 40rmb.

Some Randoms...

That club that is supposed to open in Taikang Lu called "U-Too" (nice 1, guys) has the Progressive stylings of Patrick Mai on Saturday. I don't remember where it is, so maybe just walk around Taikang asking people where the ill shit is at. That club Mojo888 that was open for about 10 minutes is reopening at Colo(u)r, and they're hosting Ralph Zuckermann, a DJ that remixed some B6 tracks for a European release. Fat Olive is doing a lounge-y Halloween thing with free swag up for grabs from De Bortoli. Mural is slinging the cheapest booze in town this Saturday with free flow bloody cocktails before 11pm, and free flow on selected drinks till 2am. Entrance fee is 50rmb.

And what would Halloween be without I Love Shanghai. 100rmb open Bar deal from 8pm until Midnight. Simple. Yet effective.

Happy Halloween. DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL.
