Today's MP3's were obtained legally! And can be downloaded legally! Well, most of the time they're legal downloads anyways, but these are extra, extra legal, because I got them from
MicroMu, an "experimental, sponsor-driven, free-to-user record label model designed to discover new talent, create original music and reward artists in seemingly impossible conditions."
More on MicroMu at the bottom, but first here's some stuff from Fink, a Ninja Tune-signed, UK-based acoustic act playing
this Friday at Yuyintang. The first non-wikawikawikaiwka musician signed to Ninja Tune (they of the Kid Koala, Coldcut, and Daedalus, among others), Fink was a remixer to the stars before re-orientating himself in 2006 as a Blue-sy, Soul-sy, Dub-ey singer/songwriter. (Debut release:
Biscuits for Breakfast.) Piling high profile shows on top of that (his bio has him "sharing the stage" with Zero 7 and Massive Attack), the accolades started rolling in:
"Mean moody and magnificent. One of the most original singer-songwriters around."
¨CClash
"...say hello to your new soundtrack."
¨CNME
"Surprises when you least expect it.
Sort of Revolution [latest album] refuses to succumb to the obvious."
¨CMojo

There you go. That sounds nice. Fink has some stuff released on MicroMu. Here is more of that from
the original post. He sneaks into town this Friday for his first time in China, and you should check him out. Cover is 60rmb, and the opening act(s) are still TBD.
What's this MicroMu? A free record label? MicroMu is from Beijing-based label run by Ed Peto. Read more on what they're all about right
here -- it's a round-up of the concept on the occasion of their one-year anniversary. There's also lots of free downloads there from their other people. Good deal. If you haven't heard of MicroMu before, there's your Monday afternoon all sorted out...
Here's Fink's
MySpace page, and here's his
main page. Image with this article from that page. Here's the
event listing.
