As we whittle away the hours waiting for Armin Van Buuren to take our call -- seriously, what's up AVB? -- here's some music from
Tucker, a one-man electrohiphoppunkrock8bitdj from Japan.
For his first time in Shanghai, Tucker might be overshadowed a bit by the other big superstars in town tonight -- MONO, Benny Benassi -- but if you haven't already got yourself sorted, go see Tucker. He goes on at 1:30am. You won't be disappointed. He plays organs, synths, guitars, and turntables all at once, all by his own self, some of the time with his nose, and he's probably going to light the keyboards on fire. Seriously. That's like his thing. Lighting the keyboards on fire. He does lots of handstands on the keyboard as well, and I would suspect that he might be the only guy who's every played at The Shelter that might attempt a stage dive.
This one's being put on by V-Nutz and The Lab crew is in support. I think Tucker is a good match for this kind of thing. Hip hop kids need this kind of spazzy, virtuoso performance art kind of stuff some of the time. It's good for them. It builds character. Anyways, we were going to have a nice interview with Tucker, but I'm kind of afraid of him, so here are some MP3s instead.
Musically, it's like 8bit on speed, which is already on speed to begin with. Also pop, punk, hip hop, electro, are in there, played all at once and very, very fast.
The first one is Tucker's take on Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake". Kind of reminds me of the old Prince of Persia soundtrack for some reason.

This next one is kind of starts off like it might be a White Zombie song and spins out from there into "I'm fighting the last guy in Ninja Gaiden" music. Really neat-o.

Tucker's played all over the world, and has in recent years done a few festivals (Fuji Rock, Big Day Out). If you're looking for something intimate, energetic, and freaky, don't miss that one.
Here's Tucker on MySpace. Here's the event details. He's on at 1:30am
