[My Weekender] with Super Sophia

Blacker than a million midnights -- so goth - Dec 04, 09

Super Sophia does a little bit of this and that for Shanghai's most terrific live music venue, Yuyintang -- booking, pr, and promotions, and whatnot. This weekend, Yuyintang celebrates their five-year anniversary with this show tonight, this show tomorrow night, and this show Sunday night.

Well, it's going to be a big weekend to me. Having worked at YYT for 2 years now has turned me into a night owl. Or that's just what I was to begin with. So many things are happening this weekend. Going to all the good shows and parties is my mission.

Friday, we have our five-year anniversary at YYT, and I'll stay there to help. I'll be there for the sound check before my boss arrives, and then I'll take care of the guest list at the door before the show starts. Also, I'll meet my friend Jake Newby to discuss some joint-birthday plans for next weekend and enjoy some BBQ at the park. Afterwards I'll end up my Friday night at Mod Dance Party at LOgO, listening to some vintage music and checking out garage rock band The Bandits.

On Saturday, my plan is to wake up at 3pm and find myself some new black goth clothes and boots on Qipu Lu. It's not that horrible at Qipu Lu around 4pm-6pm. I can always get some good quality and cheap stuff on the second floor or the third floor. I don't really bother to go shopping at those small fancy stores on Shan'xi Lu or Changle Lu: 70% of the clothes and shoes there just come from Qipu Lu anyways. After that, I'll go to a Hunan restaurant, Hu Nan Yuan which in on Fahuazheng Lu. I think you can find the spiciest food in Shanghai there.

When it's getting dark, the best part of this weekend is coming. At Yuyintang, I booked a new band Moon Tyrant and two other two local bands. That means I'll have to stay there for a while to take care everything for the show. But at MAO Livehouse, Re-TROS are playing, and even though I've seen them many times, I'll try to sneak out for a bit to catch the show because they're playing new songs. Afterwards... I'm going to even more shows. The French band Papier Tiger at LOGO cannot be missed, so I'll head there and get my face melted for a while.

But that's not it... still have one more party to pop in at -- Not Me. I helped the host to do some promotion for the party, so I think I have to be there to show more support and hang out with them a bit. But the party sounds fun anyway. According to the plan, we're hanging out there until 6am and then going to get some breakfast. Totally crazy.

In this case, I guess I'll just sleep the day off on Sunday. But have to get up at 6pm because I'll take my keyboard lesson at 7pm at Lin Di's (she's the frontwoman for the band Cold Fairyland). Oh and I have to send out all my six kitty cats on the way. Three for friends, two for restaurants (not be used for cooking!), and two for YYT. After all of those things done, yes, I'll be at YYT again. Split Works is hosting the Canadian band, Hollerado. Fortunately I don't need to work that night. Hope my boss can handle everything, so I can just watch the show, have some drinks and go home.

Alright that's the plan so far. Sounds busy and crazy? Yes, you got me! And I always stay super! Hooray!!
