MP3 Monday: SH Wish List
By Morgan Short, Feb 1st, 2010 | In Nightlife
I’m right out of bands to flog for this column, so today we're just going to talk about bands that I wish would come play in Shanghai. Although the likelihood of any of these acts actually coming to our little town is, for a variety of reasons, pretty slim... a girl can dream.

Ministry

That’s right. Ministry. Not "Ministry of Sound". Just "Ministry". Ministry needs to come to Shanghai 'cause it would be so awesome. Shanghai gets its fair share of metal shows, but none of the bands are doing INDUSTRIAL, which as a genre, is a good match for this city. Electronica, heavy metal... yeah. Alas, the likelihood of Ministry every coming to Shanghai is almost nil. They released their final album in like 2007, and rounded out a farewell tour in 2008. The played their last show in Dublin and finished with a cover of "What a Wonderful World."
Boo to Ministry for breaking up when, clearly, their work is not yet done.
GWAR

Yep. How sweet would it be if GWAR came and brought their entire stage show with them. They're so big in Japan, they have an official Japanese homepage -- www.gwarjapan.net -- so you'd think it would be feasible for them to just stop over to China next time they’re rolling through the Land of the Rising Sun. In 2009, they just celebrated their 25th anniversary and released their eleventh studio album, "Lust in Space" on Metal Blade. "Lust" in space... not "Lost" in space. God, that’s good satire. I guess it would be tough to make GWAR in China cost effective -- it’s a six person band, with six "slaves" in the stage show, and another six to ten random dudes that just pop up from time to time. Not to mention 9 million pounds foam, latex, styrofoam, rubber, and "gwar jizz". Still, GWAR in China: fingers crossed.
Actually, if not GWAR I'd be happy with these guys. Someone get the Finnish consulate... On. That. Shit.
Mini KISS

No MP3s, but here's their MySpace.
Mini KISS is a KISS tribute band consisting entirely of little people. I know. It sounds ten times better than actual KISS. A quick stop at Mini KISS' official page on the net sees the band doing various conventions, charity shows, and corporate gigs in the States, and I think it's high time they took it international. Someone needs to get them on a plane, LA to Shanghai. Direct.
Shanghai promoters, look, I’ll do the work for you. To book them, call here: 516-695-2438. Or over email here: KYRO315@AOL.COM. Their booking manager is using AOL, so it can't be all that expensive. Someone put the RMB in their tiny little hands! Lets do this!

Ok, why doesn't everyone who wants to see Mini Kiss play here pledge a nominal amount of money each and we keep going until we have enough money to get them over here - it can't be that expensive after all. Either that or we just bug Splitworks to add them to the JUE line-upmorgan, Feb 1st, 2010
Or even Tiny Kiss, which is a dwarfish Kiss tribute band, albeit with a 350-pound woman as Paul Stanley.Feast your eyes: http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2006/04/18/TinyKISS_03_wideweb__470x309,0.jpg
Mini Kiss and Tiny Kiss are in a band feud as well. Google "Mini Kiss vs. Tiny Kiss", and there's your whole afternoon sorted out.
