MP3 Monday: 81Fur.com PETA Show
By Morgan Short, Feb 9th, 2010 | In Nightlife
Your intrepid MP3 Monday correspondent was stricken down with serious illness yesterday, for which the only cure was 9 hours of Batman: The Animated Series on Tudou and some Mudhoney.
But here's some MP3s anyways, and oh what a treat, because today, it's for a good cause: seeing Andy Best almost naked.

Shanghai's most prolific music blogger is teaming up with animal rights activist group PETA in the promotion of this website -- 81fur.com -- and the launch of their China "no fur" campaign. Basically, the argument is fur is wack. Don't wear it. Don't buy things at shops that sell it. Don't support designers that use it. Also animal testing is wack. Any abuse of animals, really. It's all just wack.
While the PETA message is probably not new to most, the point of the show and the tertiary promotional stuff is to get local kids involved in on the dialogue of animal rights, bring the issues in front of Chinese youth, and to hopefully make the kids more mindful of occupying a more altruistic space in the world. Good stuff. A worthy cause indeed.
Here's the concert details: The "81Fur.com" PETA show is at Yuyintang on February 25. There are two bands performing -- Candy Shop and Forget and Forgive -- along with DJ Sacco, who, one could add, is not only against fur but most clothing in general. There is no cover. It starts promptly at 9pm so people will be able to see the bands and catch their last subways and buses home.
This first MP3 is from Forget and Forgive. They’re a newer local band, only a year or so old, but they’re quickly building a little following in Shanghai. Diagnosis: it's second wave screamo, alternating balladry, pop punk, and emotive post-hardcore, and if you dig on stuff like The Used, later period AFI, and Grade, you'll be down with this.
This next band is Candy Shop, a long time favorite of the Kungfuology bloggers. Candy Shop is all over the place with the elements they incorporate into their songs: saccharine pop, hip hop, nu metal, pop ska punk, a little thrash -- it's all in there. They've built up a nice crowd as well for the past few years, and are a great party band. Good times. There you go.
Here's Forget and Forgive on Douban and here's Candy Shop.
Once again, that PETA show is on Feb 25 at Yuyintang. 9pm is when the first band starts playing and there is no cover charge. If you'd like to get in contact with Andy to find out more about PETA in China, hit up the contact page of Kungfuology right here.

If those guys look happy I'd rather wear fur!rob.r, Feb 9th, 2010
Sorry, guys. A poor knocked off of a 20 year old Calvin Klein ad doesn't really rally me to "The Cause." But if this had Sea Kittens we'd be talking about something entirely different...Andy Best, Feb 9th, 2010
Batman: the animated series is on Tudou? I'm there.morgan, Feb 10th, 2010
Damn right. And then after you get through those theres "The New Adventures of Batman and Robin" (good), then "Justice League" (better) and then "Justice League Unlimited" (best) -- no to mention the 8 or 9 movies put out along with these shows. Clear your year.Andy Best, Feb 10th, 2010
If I find The Tick on there then I'm giving up on the world and becoming a shut in.Please sign in or register to comment
