St. Patrick's Day Rundown
By Morgan Short, Mar 16th, 2010 | In Nightlife

A slew of pub, bars, and clubs are going green this year for St. Patrick's Day, the only day of the year it's sort of alright to pretend you're Irish. The rest of the year you should just suck it up and admit you're from Nova Scotia. Or Boston. Okay, yeah, your great, great grand parents were Irish but come on now... you're not fooling anyone. Get over it.
You're... gah... American... live with it.
Pubs: Expect Those Guinness Top Hat Things
St. Patrick's Day @ O'Malley's
O'Malley's is currently running a week-long St. Patrick's Day special, with live Irish music, special menus, and more. This Wednesday night, they've got the full-on St. Patrick's bash with drink specials galore: 2 Carbombs 50rmb; 2 Jagerbombs 60rmb; 2 for 1 Bailey's. Live Irish folk music. Door gifts and more. Green beer? Check.
St. Patrick's Day @ Malone's

Malone's has also been doing a week-long St. Patrick's day thing with a bunch of drink specials: 50rmb Guinness, Kilkennys, double Bailey's, double Irish Whiskey's. Live Irish music from their house band, Irish menus, give-aways and more. Both Tongren and Thumb Plaza locations are offering those specials.
St. Patrick's Day Party @ The Bulldog
Not too sure where the Bulldog is "from" these days, but this Wednesday, they're Irish. A slew of drink specials, beer pong, and Irish music from DJ Stephen. They've got the 50rmb Guinness and Kilkenny, and a free-flow deal on Tiger draft, G&Ts, vodkas, and whiskey from 9pm to midnight -- 60rmb for girls; 80rmb for guys. That's a good deal if you see yourself consuming a lot, but want to intersperse it with a proper pint of Guinness.
Parties: Call in Dead Tomorrow
Punk Rock St. Patrick's Day @ Windows Scoreboard (Windows Too)
Scoreboard is rolling out their traditional yearly Punk Rock St. Patrick's Day with Irish drinking songs along with all your skate punk favorites. Translation: expect a lot of Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, and the like. Requests for NOFX, most likely honored. Their usual drink prices qualify as "drink specials" -- expect Windows commitment to quality with all your drink orders. Green beer? Yessir.
St. Patrick's Shindig @ I Love Shanghai
ILS, also representing Jing'an district, is doing St. Patrick’s Day with the emphasis on the drink, drink, drinking. But also costumes. ILS is good for the costumes. Wear green. Green wigs ideally, and head down for their 25rmb Green Carlsberg drink special all night. All drinks come with a complimentary "Green Weenie" shot. No idea what that is. But it sounds enticing.
St. Patrick's Soul @ Dada
Dada bar is your Xingfu Lu connection for Irishness, sort of, with their Wednesday night soul night hosting a muted screening of awesome Irish soul flick "The Commitments". Then probably "In the Name of the Father" on after that. Bit of Irish music here and there on the stereo interspersed by '60s rock and soul. Guinness special on offer all night and song requests honored by a traditional Irish head butt.
Ladies Nights: Irish Eyes Are Smiling
Ladies Night St. Patrick's Day @ Mural
Mural's Wednesday Ladies night goes green with complimentary green cocktails for ladies until midnight. They've got 25rmb green drafts for the fellas all night long. And DJ Trix on the decks. He's for the kids. Go on up and request whatever you fancy. He'd love to field all your requests no matter how aesthetically unpleasing they may be.
St. Patrick's Ladies Night @ Zapata's
Also putting a St. Patrick's Day spin on their weekly Ladies Night is Zapata's, with green beer, green décor, and traditional Irish bar top dancing to traditional Irish music like... U2 probably. And Bananarama. Good times.

Loungin: Keep it Classy
Kiss Me, I'm Irish @ Tara 57
Tara's weekly "Mmmm… Chocolate" party is on hold this week in honor of St. Patrick: specials on Jameson and Guinness. House music -- Irish people like house music right? -- by DJ Yoko, and the longest Happy Hour special in town: 7pm to 10pm. Kiss me, I’m Irish. Or probably Spanish, but whatever.
St. Patrick's Day @ Longitude
Depending on the weather, you might also want to pop by Longitude. The patio lounge is doing drink specials for the big night including, 35rmb for a half-liter of Heineken and 30rmb Vedett. DJ Vinx plays Irish folk music, until people get sick of it, and then he’s going to play some house.

Odds and Ends
The popular pubs fill up for St. Patrick’s day, so keep these options in mind as well: Boxing Cat Brewery, Oscar's, Abbey Road, The Beaver, The Camel, and of course... the Blarney Stone. Also, don't forget that Julie Doiron is playing at Yuyintang on Wednesday night, so you might want to slot that into your festivities. She was in Eric's Trip, man!
This one's for the Blarney Stone. Happy St. Patrick’s Day.
