[Eat It]: 7-Eleven Slurpees

By Morgan Short, Aug 12th, 2010 | In Dining

Eat It is a regular feature that cuts to the core of a given restaurant's menu, highlighting a specialty, favorite, or otherwise good thing to eat.

In the heart of People's Square there is a 7-Eleven that serves the people's drink: Slurpees.

Yes, my friends, to our knowledge, there is one and only one 7-Eleven convenience store in Shanghai that actually serves Slurpees.

This is what this beautiful sonofabitch looks like:

This is the address: 474 Jinling Dong Lu, near Xizang Nan Lu.

They have two sizes: small and large (alas, no "Big Gulps"). Small is 500ml and costs 5rmb. Large is 750ml and that costs 6rmb. For realz.

They have three flavors: coke, sprite, and orange.

I know what you're thinking. No cream soda? No cherry? No "blue"? Yeah... they don't have those yet. But come on, man. It's a start. It's a start...

There's a palpable buzz at this 7-Eleven. There's more life, better vibes, more pizzazz. More zip, more zing, more zest. The employees are happy and excited. They know they're on to something big here with this Slurpee thing. They don't know where it's all going but they’re gonna ride it out and see. Look at this guy, blasting up some Slurpee action. Just lovin' life:

In addition to more flavors of slurpees I'd like to see the following happen at this very special 7-Eleven: I want a classic Street Fighter II arcade game in there. I will also settle for Killer Instinct. I want a rack of comics stocked with Fantastic Four, Uncanny X-Men, Detective Comics, and Alpha Flight. I want convenience store nachos and hot dogs. I want an old dude at the counter, ploughing through a stack of scratch and wins. I want to see a group of kids arguing in one of the aisles about who is going to go and try to buy a copy of Swank.

And this is the most important thing they need:

A sketchy dude to hang out on the front steps selling shitty weed.

"What's up, Shane? Just in for some slurpees, yo. Hey, can you see me through to a dime-bag?"

We're going to have a great summer, my friends. Slurpees are here. Slurpees are here. I'm getting my mom to send over my Slip 'n' Slide and my copy of the movie Singles. On VHS. And my Def Leopard CDs and my Sony Discman. Anyone know where we can get skateboards?

I heard if you eat a bunch of pop rocks with diet coke your head explodes like a grenade. Serious. We gotta try that shit.

Again: 6rmb Slurpees at 474 Jinling Dong Lu, near Xizang Nan Lu. And they're open 24 hours.

Gnarly.

This makes me want to pick up lottery tickets for my grandfather on the way home from work. How is there no peoples lottery here yet?

psinology, Aug 12th, 2010

Is that you mixing up some Sprite flava ON TOP OF your orange?

We would also need to be wearing LA Gear sneakers with double laces...

The 7-11 on Zhaojiabang Lu near Dong'an Lu also sells slurpees. Great thirst quencher before bowling at Qingsongcheng next door. No mango slurpees yet, but surely it's only a matter of time. That, or prawn. Fingers crossed.

just went 7-11's china website and they are listing the slurpee flavors for fall 2010:

red bean
mooncake

and toufa must be a seer or something because they will have something called "ocean delight"

Kinda surprised green tea isn't available yet. People in China seem to like tea.

Also, I forgot to mention, all these 7-Eleven's should have a white dude in a honda civic ripping mad doughnuts in the parking lot, blasting Warren G's "Regulate" out the windows.

Jessek147, Aug 13th, 2010

This might help. In Summary there are Slurpees at:

Bringin it back...Old school style..Luv it!

johnotoole, Aug 14th, 2010

What they really need are shitty plastic boxes with fold-down doors and stacks of Used Car brochures; You know, the cars between "Just used" and "Classics": the 4,000 dollar 1987 Porsche 944, the never-explained 1982 Mustang, etc.

Slurpees are back at 7-11 at XuJiaHui!
