Bungee Jumping for Vodka's Sake

China team at 42 Below's Cocktail World Cup - By Ashlea Mayne, Sep 14, 06

It's now or never. Time to offer a little love and r-e-s-p-e-c-t to those undervalued service and hospitality staff of the city, or at least demand it on behalf of them. A pair of superbly-skilled bartenders (Bruce Chen and Seven Dai) from the Vault Bar at Three on the Bund are, just as we type, participating in the last few days 42 Below Cocktail World Cup (it ends this Sunday).

Yesterday (Sep 13th) the two bartenders (representing the whole of China and 2/3 of the North-East Asian region), leaped off a bridge somewhere in that little country neighbouring Australia ..you know.. the one famous for sheep, kiwi fruit, roaming hobbits... Anyway, not only were they jumping of a cliff - but jumping off a bridge whilst holding a cocktail mixer, and then pouring the mix quietly into a cocktail glass held by one of the judges in a dingy on the river. And that was only one of the challenges. The two boys came 1st and 2nd in the China final of the competition, and are now working together with the winner from Japan to make up the North-East Asia team.
