A Light Weekend with Simon Husslein

Simon Husslein is a light and sound installation artist from Germany. Newly moved to Shanghai, he will be constructing the light installation at The Shelter for their microshelter party.
After having moved here from London four weeks ago I must say (and I know you all have heard this a thousand times) the speed of this city is thrilling. I love it.
Currently, I am setting up my studio for 'installations-to-get-lost-in' and fancy light pieces in Weihai Road 696. I'm ready to watch this place take off. It's going to be a hot spot for art and design in town. I also recently started teaching at
Tongji University yesterday, shaking up their design course.
Since I could not resist the temptation of cheap martinis at
Laris, Three on the Bund, on Thursday, I am now running late to write this post, but thank you for an extended evening, Michael (queen of drama).
Friday afternoon I was shopping for some visual gadgets at the light market in Yishan Road and Yu Yuan Garden. I love strolling Shanghais markets, things could not be more random.
Dinner was with Mr. Tigi-Superstar and White Truffles Producer Ralf at
The Spot -nothing too complicated. This was followed up by some delicious shochu at Mokkos Bar. I love Mokkos. It's a little hidden oasis on Wuding Xi Lu.
Besides the usual suspects there is ONE party you should not miss this Saturday. Micro is doing it again and this time they are presenting minimal house and techno against acoustic jazz by the leaders of the local Shanghai jazz scene. This is all mixed up it the new place-to-be in the city if you want to go underground: The Shelter. So Saturday evening will be all about this exquisite audio pleasure and you will find me there -a pool of happy fluids in the corner shaking with joy.
On Saturday during the daytime I will prepare for that event since I am doing the visuals and will be installing a mad laser-light-in-a-tube-thing in the ceiling of the club. It will run the entire length of the bar and I promise, it's a 'must-see' if you like visual sensations. Please make my day and bring your cameras if you plan to attend to provide some evidence that it wasn't all just a beautiful dream.
Beforehand, though, I will try to make it to the fifth Pan-Asian Cookie Making Party in the afternoon to get my hands butter-floury and to have some golden-brown pre-Christmas-delights. This is the second cookie event by Anke and Lars hosted in Shanghai. I have to be careful with the red wine though.
Later that evening we will have a warm-up dinner with the micro crew in a restaurant close by the Shelter, and I am still awaiting instructions by DJ Vvip as to where this will be. My vote is for
Gokohai in Huaihai Lu, my favorite Japanese Shabu Shabu Restaurant in town.
Sunday will be all about detox and TLC, most likely at the amazing spa Xiao Nan Guo at The Rendezvous Merry Hotel.
I also plan to take a friend to Contrasts main gallery to see Qian Gangs beautiful paintings. 'Pure Expression' is another superb exhibition presented by Perl Lam.
