A Very Shanghers Christmas

A very wise TV show once taught me the true meaning of Christmas. It's not about getting presents. It's not about Christmas trees and decorations, candy or Christmas cards stuffed with bills from near dead relations. Christmas is all about one thing: getting drunk and stoned with your family and friends. That's it. That's all it is. A very simple idea that sometimes we forget in our hectic lives. So this holiday season, try to remember what counts: burning one down with some buddies or relatives and getting blotto with those closest to you.


For Christmas eats it's going to be difficult not to break the bank, especially with New Years around the corner, as most restaurants are hosting Christmas menus above the 400rmb mark. But hey, if that's not a problem for you moneybags, several of the classier restaurants all over town are featuring some real turkey deliciousness for you to get down on before sparking a sweet, sweet after-diner jay. Practically every restaurant is requiring that you call ahead though, so make sure you make reservations before you head out. Cheaper ones are City Diner (250rmb buffet), Zapatas (188rmb), and RU? Tonight, once the meal is taken care of, several venues around town are hosting Christmas shakers for you to expand and intensify your dinner buzz. Club destinations with Christmas parties are your usual suspects: Volar, Attica, and Muse (1 and 2). Each have their own Christmas drink deals and giveaways so click on them to find out more. LOgO bar is hosting an S.T.D. party (feat. Banana Monkey) and Parrot is hosting a DJ-themed thing. Mural is offering up a live band and egg nog, Windows Scoreboard is hosting a little Christmas retro and I Love Shanghai is having a Filipino Christmas. Zapata's Christmas dinner will eventually devolve into a debauched affair entitled "Margaritas and Mistletoe" and 789 (the bar at the top of the Royal Meridien) is hosting a classy "New York" Christmas, which actually sounds pretty neat-o.

But hey it doesn't really matter where you end up. Just as long as you're with some good friends and family (if possible) and that you're severely mashed. In a benevolent, cheerful way. Happy holidays!
