Easter excess with Holly Graham

Easter always means a feast of some sort (even if you haven't been fasting for the last few weeks) and in a city like Shanghai, we don't need much encouragement to indulge in a bit of excess. I'm kicking off the feasting theme tonight; meeting friends for teppanyaki at
Tairyo and exchanging the usual chocolate for some sushi. Teppanyaki is a concept that hasn't really hit London in the same way as Shanghai and all-you-can-eat sushi took a little getting used to (I took the concept a little bit too far the first time) but now I end up going all the time - the food is healthy and a bit of sake never hurt anyone. After that I'm going to try and further my mission to get my friends to come to Pudong. I live over the river and am always the one paying the 50 kuai taxi bill home but tonight I want to check out the new club
The Wall (yes, there are clubs in Pudong) and am hoping that tonight's
Hennessy Artistry night will convince them to break tradition. If not, we'll probably go in the complete opposite direction (literally and musically) and head to
MAO for
Magic Garden and some Electronica. Then home to bed (hopefully the journey will be cheaper than usual) to get ready for the rest of the festival.
Saturday is usually reserved entirely for recovery, but this weekend I'm going to have to get up early and start stretching my pillow-fighting muscles. I don't usually go in for things like this (I promise) but there was something irresistible about the Worldwide Pillow Fight happening this Saturday outside the
Shanghai Sculpture Space and so I agreed to join my friend (and hopefully people all over the world) for a bit of good, clean and slightly aggressive fun.
After that we'll need some real nourishment, and its been a while since I ate real Chinese food, so I'm probably going to grab some dumplings (and maybe a nap) before the evening's activities. Saturday night is a tricky one. It would usually definitely be spent at
Shelter for
Sweatshop - I love D&B in (almost) all its forms, but the consistent quality that Shelter always doles out, and the Shanghai prices, makes this week's offering almost irresistible. The only spanner in that particular works is the night on at
Attica - a place I wouldn't usually pick but one that looks immense this weekend, being the host of the
Maroon 5 after-party and all. Plus I think their lead singer is gorgeous, and obviously he won't be in the VIP section, so I might head there for a bit instead.
Sunday is when real Easter rolls around and so has to be the crest of the excess. I'm spending the morning (weather dependent) picknicking in Zhongshan park. We're going to make it a properly British affair - hard-boiled eggs, Frisbees, kites, plastic cutlery and lots of gingham. The last time I spent Easter Sunday in Shanghai I went to the
JW Marriott for what was probably the best brunch of my life - and I would highly recommend it - but this year we're going vintage and making our own packed lunch. After eating, I'm probably heading back to the French concession (and back to
Shelter, if I couldn¡¯t resist it on the Saturday) for
PAUSE. It looks amazing, and it starts at 4pm ¨C not usually a consideration but I¡¯ve agreed to go to
HORSE the band on Monday, a gig I'm very excited about but not one I want to go to with a hangover.
