Gourmet Pizza Night

Nougatine -- JG's more casually priced sister restaurant, occupying what used to be the bar/lounge area -- does a two-fer on their gourmet pizzas. At 118rmb for a margherita pizza, or 148rmb for the black truffle and fontina, they weren't all that cheap to begin with, but from 6-8pm, every night, they're a bit more reasonable.

Tiffin

Sheraton Pudong hosts a Nepalese/Indian curry night every Friday: Tiffin. The property's Nepalese chef does up a spread of Indian and Nepalese curries, they put Himalayan music on the sound system, the beverage menu turns Indian, and the air is really thin. 258rmb plus 15% including soft drinks. Discounts for groups of six or more.

Utage

Nadaman, the revered fine-dining Japanese restaurant chain with a lovely, subdued granite location in the Pudong Shangri-La, is reining in their high prices for a relatively cheap endless menu of sushi, tempura, and teppanyaki. Weekends only. The deal is 300rmb per person, plus 15% service, and available both lunch and dinner.

Napa Raw

Big, big, HUGE platters of all the best Napa can get, every Thursday. On ice: a mixture of raw and poached prawns, scallops, tuna, salmon, crab, octopus, calamari, mussels, oysters. Normal platter is 368rmb; with a lobster, 598rmb. Special deals on crisp white wines and Champagnes.

All You Can Eat Chicken

All-you-can-eat rotisserie chicken, from Mr. Vargas's burgeoning chicken chain, weekdays from 2-5pm. Endless poultry, side dishes, and soft drinks for 98rmb. Kids under 12 are free, with a paying adult (max 2 kids).

BYOB at Osteria

Osteria waves the corkage fee on Sundays and Mondays, encouraging you to bring your own wine.

Oysterlicious Tuesdays

Osteria, the slim Italian house on Jinxian Lu, has been slowly carving out a reputation for its oysters. On Tuesdays, it offers up a plate of seven Washington State oysters and three glasses of wine for 137rmb, or fourteen oysters and the same three glasses of wine, for 197rmb.

Pizza & Beer Sunday

Tasty thin-crust pizzas -- pizzas you might recognize from Velvet Lounge -- plus an Italian Moretti beer, at a hefty discount. A parma ham and arugula pizza that otherwise sells for 118rmb, for example, goes for 100rmb, including the beer. All day.

Yamazato's Seasonal Sushi

Yamazato, in the Okura Garden Hotel, is consistently ranked among the top Japanese joints in Shanghai, and usually frequented by businessmen and expense accounts. For April, they're showing off a seasonal variety of sea bream that's best this month: Nagasaki's red sea bream. Specialized. A "box" of sushi made with the seasonal fish runs 80rmb +15%.
