MIDI Festival [Electronic]
Originally scheduled for early September, this is The Mansion's second big festival out in Suzhou -- about two hours from Shanghai. The area has several stages, a mini-water park, some amusement park rides, and several after-party houses. For a full guide with directions, lineup, schedule, and more, click here. Expect about 80 Shanghai- / China-based DJs playing techno, house, hip hop, bass music, electro, and more. But the big surprise this year is the addition of some rock bands. Those include Finnish melodic death metal band Children Of Bodom (huge) playing on October 3, along with Japanese metal act GYZE, and seminal American punk band Sick Of It All, headlining Oct 2 with HK hardcore act King Ly Chee. There's also some electronic headliners, including Feadz, Dr. Lektroluv, and Sulumi. We heard that the music was hit and miss last time (too many DJs...) but that the fest was a rad time overall.
Pre-sale tickets are 300rmb for three days, 200rmb for two days, and 100rmb for one day. Door tix will cost slightly more. For tickets and information about the travel options from Shanghai, you might want to follow The Mansion's WeChat account (ID: the-mansion). There will be buses going there from Shanghai, but taking a train to Suzhou then taking a cab from there is also an option. Taking a private cab from Shanghai will cost several hundred RMB, but not a bad option.
