The World of Others

Despite the exhibition title, this is actually the first time MoCA will exhibit a show of purely Shanghai-based artists. Curated by Shanghai Museum of Art's Jiang Mei, the theme "other" will be explored through a variety of media. Existential. Alienation. Art. It's an exhibition curated by Jiang Mei from the Shanghai Museum of Art and showcases both up and coming as well as established artists from Shanghai. It's the first time for MoCA to launch a Shanghai-only artist exhibition illustrating a variety of medias and disciplines, showcasing both new and previously exhibited works.

The central theme of this exhibition revolves round "the individual". Through contemporary art, the artists and curator explore the existential crisis facing modern society and shaping the environment we are live in today. "Other" is relative; on one hand, it refers to the loneliness individuals experience in modern society, and at the same time, implies the identification, empathy and compassion we feel towards others. To a certain extent, "other" here is a reflection of "us". Through the artists and artwork in this exhibition we come to know ourselves, others and similarly the world we inhibit.
