As the title implies, this is a show of younger Chinese artists. Themes of anxiety, melancholia and urban distress reveal attempts to develop an artistic language that departs from the trite tripe Middle Kingdom artists are currently being accused of by critics-at-large. Opening cocktail 4-7pm. The fast development of China over the last few decades has given each generation its own particular characteristics. Through their personal experiences people born at different times are exposed to different influences, ideologies and values.
This exhibition shows us what today's younger generation of Chinese artists are concerned about – the discussion about their personal living environment, confusion surrounding their existence, disorientation amidst the fast change in urban cities, and the search for a social role and a way how to realize their own values in society.
From the art works you will also find, that they are not a generation of computer games and cartoons. They are trying to create a new language of art, which express the true identity.
Xiao Hong's human anxiety, Zhai Liang's intellectual thoughts, Peng Bo's lost in urban development, and Pan Yingguo's beauty with melancholy. The artists question themselves, and question what we will contribute as the future generation of China?
