Guo Jin's works show images of children dressed in a variety of playful costumes, occasionally appearing as if on stage. By their very nature, the acts that the children are involved in what should be innocent fun, but they are given sinister undertones by a lack of movement which robs the figures of their vitality. It appears as if these children have become fossilised, with their surface being worn down over time and becoming mottled and discoloured.

Chongqing's Tian Tai Quan has taken a supposedly objective medium and tinkered with it using superimposition, collages and digital manipulation to project a personal viewpoint. Photographing multimedia scenes that he has orchestrated to conform to his artistic mission, Tian uses this pre-designed, non-reality to fictionalize history and reminds us that memories become increasingly distorted over time, sometimes so much so that they are no more accurate than artistic fantasies. Opening reception at 7:30, April 30.

Artists Gao Feng, Yao Lu, He Jian and Hao Liang are part of a movement that is "rewriting a new history of Chinese art" that avoids Cultural Revolution and Social-Realism elements to integrate a Chinese tradition in contemporary art. Basically, "post-traditionalism" chooses to bypass the fact that Mao spent three decades defining art. This interesting movement must also exclude any art that reacts to Social Realism. Although it sure tidies up the path of Chinese art history, some may take issue with this "rewriting" of history. Debate the issue till the cows come home - it's an intellectual alternative to all those tedious theme-parties.
