We are hiring for an empty position on the line in the SmartShanghai media factory, where we build the city’s best English media content. You’ll join a small crew of writers, editors, photographers and IT technicians for a full-time role producing articles, managing listings and massaging relationships for SmartShanghai.com’s front page and business directory. There is technical web work (though nothing too technical), fun reporting work (we go out a lot and explore the city), brainy writing (suffer our editing gauntlet) and social relationship stuff (we know a lot of people).
In this role, you will be responsible for the newly established Business beat, which means you need to be out there in the city, attending and learning about business events and the people behind them. You will become our expert on co-working spaces, serviced apartments, networking and all aspects of the business community in Shanghai. As this is a new role, your input will be required to shape the directory into a valuable resource for entrepreneurs and civilians alike.
You can write well. You are already involved in the city’s business community. You can dive deep into a subject and come out with a comprehensive understanding. You can manage your own time efficiently and independently. You want to learn but you also have something to teach us. You are ok with a degree of website-building desk-work. You have been in Shanghai for at least two years. You meet the bare minimum for being socially well-adjusted; you’re going to have meet a lot of people and represent SmartShanghai on our behalf.
Even better if your Chinese is good enough for work.
Finally, you satisfy China’s requirements for a visa: you have more than two years of documented work experience, you hold a bachelor’s degree and you don’t have a criminal background.
