Nanling is an old-guard restaurant extremely popular with mature Shanghai diners. The food is Yangzhou-style, essentially a lighter version of Shanghainese fare. Very well-known for a dish that's not from Yangzhou at all, but still delicious: a crispy-skinned roast duck, a la Peking. Big, spacious place with a clashing decor.

The Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel's first floor sushi bar is decked out in paper lanterns, pod seats, and white rock gardens. The restaurant also features a teppanyaki corner with five teppanyaki counters for seating up to six diners each.

Hailing from the Hunanese provincial capital of Changsha, this restaurant Japanese-style teppanyaki cooking with Hunan cuisine. It's a bit of a culinary gimmick, but it's not completely a clumsy marriage. Some dishes on offer are reasonably good. If nothing else, it's an opportunity to see one of the ways China is trying push the boundaries of its cuisine.
