[My Weekender] with Daniel Weinberg

Sep 17th, 2010

Daniel Weinberg is your party host and General Manager of Shiva Lounge.

The "Shang-high weekend" is here once again. I assume most of you are looking for some serious debauchery, good times, and to get laid. Shanghai is fantastic, full of energy and groovy people. It’s our playground and we are lucky to live in it...

I have been working full-on in Shanghai's nightlife industry for the past year and it's been a real ride. My weekends could generally be considered five days long due to work but I'll keep it simple and tell you all the fancy stuff I will be up to this weekend.

Friday is a big big day for me. I'll wake up and go eat some xiao long bao at the hole in the wall down the street and then head over for a light swim at the local gym in my building's parking lot, in order to recover from a night dodging between Shiva and drop's club opening.

Then I'll go to the motorbike shop to pick up my long awaited new A-Team B.A Barracus electric scooter which has taken over two weeks to be delivered. Coated in metallic blue, flashing disco wheels, rear suspension of some kind, a granny fruit basket and tri-color fog lights, I will probably look like the biggest chav in town. But fuck it, at least owning it will ease the pain of having my gold-plated "vespa a la chinoise" stolen by some bum on Yongfu Lu a week after purchasing it.

Friday afternoon I'll head over to Shiva Lounge early to finalize the details of a sweet party I want to throw during the October Holidays for all those lucky swingers staying in Shanghai. La crème of la crème, honorific guest DJ's, Lomas, Andrew Bull, Dave K, Mia, and Skinny Babou will be polishing the decks on Wednesday 6th of October at Shiva.

Then my dear entrepreneurial housemates Polo and Louise will head over to the bar for some classic after-work drinks and I'll finally get to catch up with them and chat about their grand business schemes, InternAsia and Mohekann.

Early Friday night we're hosting a birthday bash for 40 people. From what I gather the birthday girl wants it to be a kinky secretaries themed party with all her girlfriends. Later on, special guest DJ Caution from L.A will be playing fresh shagadelic house all night long. Looking forward to a blast...

Saturday morning I'll finish work, and hopefully head home to sleep, or more likely be convinced to go to some friends house for breakfast compromised of nutritious vodka and fresh cranberry juice, good tunes and maybe some muesli if I'm in the mood.

Saturday I'll wake up late in the afternoon, go to Ashtanga Yoga Class at Yoga Space and then drop by City Shop to buy the mama of juicy sirloin steaks. Before heading back home to grill this bad boy I'll stop by charismatic Jiashan Lu to pick up some veggies and stare at the locals playing cards on the sidewalk or petting their yappy dogs, sporting the latest doggie-trainers on the east-side -- all of this in their pyjamas... Absolutely fantastic.

Home for dinner, wack on an episode of Breaking Bad, then back to work.

Saturday night flirtatious DJ's, T.Easy and Eclec Sonde, two of my good Spanish mates will be masters of ceremonies for "The Amazing Race - Shiva Rush" -- Minimal Techno como en España coño!

Sunday is my day off and I always want to take advantage and do as much as I can. If the weather is nice I'll head home and put on my swimming trunks or the SM thong I was given for my birthday by some people with taste. After much consideration, will spend the morning passed out at the Pudong Shimao pool and listening to the wave pools chant of coolness.

I'd like to take advantage this weekend and make it to a brunch for once. I'm craving for the one at The Puli Hotel, and of course, the free flow champagne which should help me get through the day with style.

6pm sharp I have a date with my TV to watch one of my dearest friends, Isobel, rock it out on ICS where she hosts her world adventurer travel show "Getaway".

Last but not least, a few last drinks at Anar which hosts funkiness master, John, for his open mic jam session, which is always insanely cool and puts you to bed with a smile on your face.

Big hug everyone -- join me this weekend if you can handle it and keep on smiling!
