Stopped at Kakadu for the first time, albeit hesitantly after reading a review that labeled it a bit of an Australian 'novelty' restaurant. I wasn't particularly in the mood for emu, kangaroo or crocodile (tried them all years ago in Perth) and to be honest, whoever is? Well, last night's experience definitely freed Kakadu from the culinary pigeonhole I had relegated it too. We ordered all of the above mentioned 'novelties' and I was really impressed because the dishes were just flat out good and I'd order them again. Especially the kangaroo (drool), it's bursting with flavor. The main courses were less experimental and we stuck with fish and chips and the rib eye steak (I know, yawn). The fish fillets were huge and the batter was nice and crisp, not oily at all. The steak...wow. A bit pricey but incredibly tender and tasty. We ordered it with the pepper berries which the owner told us pack pepper flavor...in a berry. It must be Australian, I've never seen them before but damn they're tasty. We were too stuffed to order dessert and will save space on our next visit. The waitstaff was tolerable and the manager did a great job of keeping everything in check. For me, the food matters most and a large drinks menu never hurts (try the Red Back wheat beer, really nice, burnt wheat flavor). They also have lots of outdoor space which we unfortunately couldn't try with yesterday's rain. Great restaurant and a shame that I had put off a visit for so long. But now I can comfortably add kangaroo and emu to my list of cravings!

Come on.. I've been here twice in the past 6 months. 1st time of my own accord; fancy look and flashy decor. 2nd time one of my visiting customers insisted on going. Both times were an utter disappointment. Given the decor is great; open kitchen, chefs chanting, awesome pick-your-own sake cups, very industrial design, but the cost of the food vs quality there is a huge gap. All flair and no taste. I think i've eaten better at the 156 RMB all you can eat/drink Genji restaurant.

I had a fantastic experience with the service here, I'm surprised to see anything negative, which is why I'm writing. It probably helped that I called ahead and speak french, but it was the best service I've had in Shanghai so far, save Jean Georges. We came for brunch which was ample and delicious, although my croissant was decidedly lacking in the buttery flakiness one hopes for. Prices were very reasonable and I felt the bistro style decor was very genuine. Would certainly recommend, especially for a friendly gathering.

I live quite close and I never went there because I read some awfull reviews about it. The other day I dare to enter, expecting to have a mediocre meal, and I had a surprise. Of course it is not a 5star restaurant, but I enjoyed this lovely place. The staff were really kind with me, you get some free water and really french bread and olive sauce with your meal. And the food, far away from what I expected, was wonderfull and I would like going again soon before they change the menu. I took a cheese toast with bacon, a beef filet with pepper sauce and a chocolate cake with hot chocolate inside and a glass of french chardonnay. All for almost 100 kuai, when I take a beer anywhere for 50. I went alone, but the patio they have is what attracted me; next time I am going there with my girl. I am sorry of not going there before !

I don't get it. M gets terrible reviews on this site - but the restaurant's still full. And when I ate at M last week, the lamb was tender, and my companion's chicken moist on the inside, crispy on the outside. Maybe these guys are at another M ... the one I went to, on the Bund, had lots of exciting new things on the menu (the chicken with harissa sauce, yum), nifty little sardines all rolled up, and an old fashioned pear and plum pie that was just to die for. If only those guys who keep writing the bad reviews would stop going, then I might actually be able to get a reservation ...

I have been in "el Willy" allready several times since it opened and every time i go i leave more than satisfied. The management is very friendly and they make me feel like at home. The food represents the new Spanish cuisine and is persistent and perfectly executed, the prices are more than reasonable..it reminds me to my trip to Barcelona i will definately keep on going back!

The restaurant looks a bit run down from outside but it serves great food at highly reasonable price and staff are friendly. I visit the place everytime when I am in town.

Fantastic brunch experience and totally worth the money, only second to Norma's in NYC in my opinion. Make sure you are hungry before you order the mega brunch.

Lovely coffee shop, great decor and ambient music. Tried pesto pasta and it's simply...pasta. I have to say the food I ordered is pretty disappointing in terms of value for money. Suggest the management might consider either lowering the price or improving the food quality. And by the way it seems a bit wierd to me that you can find French, Italian and Japanese food all on the same menu. It kinda keeps me wondering that it's almost impossible to make three different types of food tasty from one kitchen....

Dear Guest, I am really shocked by your review. Ginger strives to reach the highest standards, and an experience like yours is something we have never heard of at Ginger. It is true that most of the guests at Ginger are non-Chinese, mostly Japanese, German, French, Americans, Taiwanese. This is not by choice, it just happens to be that way. In order to cater to this foreign crowd, Ginger employs a lot of foreign staff, many of whom are not fluent in Chinese. We are actually intensely focusing on winning more Chinese customers, and therefore our Chinese staff are instructed to take particularly good care of Chinese customers. There is zero tolerance on the part of the multi-ethnic management/owners of Ginger Corporation for different class of service along ethnic lines. Sundays are particularly busy at Ginger, and Sunday,, June 1 was one of the busiest days this year. We would like to encourage michaeligloo to come forward and identify her/himself to us, so that we can take corrective measures, if needed, and give you the true Ginger experience. My office number is 64674312. Regards Betty Ng

Like most, I had the soup, some pasta and the "scallop" dish but was surprised at how small and tasteless it was. The decor is fantastic, the prices are unreasonaby high for most dishes (btw, the lamb was not good at all and definitely not worth the price), the service was fine and I suppose it will become a favorite for the upper class expat who enjoys going to places that are over-priced for mediocre quality food, just to be "seen"... Don't these people realize that it ruins it for the rest of us? If you continue to pay high prices for cheap food we'll never get some high quality restuarants here in Shanghai (and don't even go there with Jean Georges/Laris crap--they are some of the worst at this fleecing of quality food lovers).

I also had a problem with the service staff, we probably had the same waiter... I have worked in the service industry for many years and not only the attitude of the server in question was unacceptable... but also the complacency of the management about rectifying the situation. Shanghai is coming of age... this is a throwback to the days when there was no choice but put up with below-standard service in Shanghai. Well i for one say; No More!
