Shanghai's own beloved vocalist Coco Zhao presents this special performance at the Jz Club monthly Oriental Art Center Jazz Series with a bunch of wonderful and skilled musicians. In an effortless blend of sound and temperament, Coco's silky voice and his characteristic musical presence shares the stage with rising jazz vocal talent Heidi Krenn. Krenn developed her passion in hometown Vienna then snagged a Fulbright to study music in New York. Other accolades include performances at Birdland, NYC, Jazzland, Vienna, and JZ Club.
The "Menage a Trois" rhythm section features Steve Sweeting caressing the ivories, Tinho Pereria on bass and Ronnie Williams on drums. They can shift from a classic bluesy standard like Stolen Moments, to the soaring and virtuosic Ha Gente Aqui, to the energetic Taiwanese mountain song Ali Shan de Guniang and back to the land of Harlem swing with Stompin' at the Savoy. Steve always throws a wildcard into the program to provoke spontaneous improvised pieces where anything could, and usually does, happen.
Sunday, August 10th at the Oriental Arts Center in Pudong. Starts 3pm.
