U R Vinyl Crazy -- previously named uDance Vinyl Radio Club, a.k.a. UVRC -- is a small club with DJs playing house, disco, and techno nightly (though occasionally they switch it up). Music starts around 10pm with rotating guests, and often goes super late, especially on Sundays, when industry people and musicians party until 6am and beyond. Very nice soundsystem and setup, which includes headphones that hang from the ceiling in case of noise complaints (or for people who just want to listen to every detail). They get the occasional out-of-town DJ booking, but it's mostly residents and local DJs. Expect to pay at least 40-50rmb for a drink.

I stopped by here with a friend yesterday evening after dinner and have to say I was impressed. In a town where the perpetual focus is on bottle service and being seen, URVC is all about the music. You walk through the door and are immediately greeted by chest pulsating base coming from the excellent sound system. Presumably because it was a week night, only half of the venues speakers were turned on—and the place was still bumping. I arrived around 8:30 so there was no one manning the decks, but the music was better than average house.

The one thing that totally took my breath away was the scale of the vinyl collection lining the walls. You can’t see it from the City Weekend review pictures, but literally from about head height to ceiling the walls are PACKED with records. The ceiling goes up 20-25 feet so I would imagine there must be tens of thousands of records up there. It reminded me of being in one of those old libraries you see in movies where you need a ladder to reach all the way to the top, it was really amazing.

As other reviewers have noted, the space is pretty small. There is an intimate seating area downstairs and a “private” balcony area upstairs. My buddy and I both had the espresso martini, which was overly sweet and unremarkable, will definitely need to try some of the other drinks on offer. Another drawback is that is a little bit out of the core downtown area, but I would definitely say its worth the trip.

If you’re into music, like records, or just want to see something amazing I would encourage you to check the place out.
