      Stumbling out of the festival and market circuit, Ruijin Cajun opened and closed their first venue on Yongjia Lu last year and recently re-opened bigger and better in north Jing'an. They make southern American comfort food and really strong drinks with names like "Sex With a Alligator", served with a "let's get crunk" attitude. Eventually, they'll be doing block parties here, possibly with free kegs. They also have a partnership with Shanghai Comedy Club with performances on Thursday and Saturday nights.

    If you hadn't been to the previous location (inside a crappy dive bar near Constellation 2) - I wouldn't blame you. But now that they've got a new place up right next to 800 Show on Changde Lu, it's right smack dab in Jing'An and easily accessible.

    So Ruijin Cajun - we get lots of food styles here in Shanghai. 8 years ago, you could only get crappy Mexican on Tongren, Hard Rock Cafe, Tony Roma's and City Diner before it fell off a cliff. In 2016, you can get pretty decent cajun food. WATTBA.

    The new joint has a completely expanded menu - it used to be just the hot dogs (oh the delicious hot dogs) and the staples of jambalaya, gumbo, and etouffe - all of which has been carried over. But now they've added a bunch of new stuff. Po' Boys. Fried chicken. the sausage cheesecake <--- my god this is fantastic. I had only had it at New Orleans favorite restaurant Jacque Imo's where they do it with alligator, but this is a damn good version.

    And what I want to talk about is their version of the muffuletta, which is an Italian sandwich (mortedella, salami, mozerrella, olive spread, provolone) - and universally loved from Central Market in New Orleans. I think the one at Ruijin Cajun is better. Take off the traditional Italian bread and onto a sandwich roll, it's a tidier, and frankly tastier sandwich.

    Everything else is good too, but I am super down for the savory cheesecake and the french-uletta (I think that's what they called it)

    The owners - Matt and um, the other guy - are super nice. Ready to talk to you about the food. The decor isn't quite right yet, but the food is good.
