This squat former Protestant church at the end of Yuanmingyuan Lu was built in 1886 and used to house factory offices after the establishment of the PRC. It was renovated and restored when the Waitanyuan Project started in 2005, which replaced the steeple. It was restored in 2012 after a fire broke out. Now it mostly serves as a cool backdrop for photographers, and hosts special events like art exhibitions. The square behind it is a popular spot for big outdoor events like Oktoberfest tents and mid-size concerts.
