Self-taught architect Tadao Ando’s 2017 project in Shanghai, it’s on the eighth floor of a gigantic shopping mall built above Line 10. “Egg” and “light” are two inspirations Ando applied to the whole project. It is kind of like a trapezoidal space with an elliptic bookstore as its core. It isn’t massive, but its intricate layout makes up for the shortage of space; it’s covered in white, but trapped light really brings out the soothing atmosphere.
