The general layout is the same as elEfante, the restaurant that held the space before, but they've really tried to break with the past with an in-house renovation that includes Peruvian knick-knacks, big patchwork sea creatures are climbing all over the walls, and projectors showing Peruvian countryside footage shot by the chef himself, Carlos Sotomayor. It only serves an 8-course dinner for 488rmb, with the menu changing monthly based on the lunar calendar. Each dish is accompanied by a card elucidating the particular course's socio-cultural place in Peruvian cuisine, a folk tale about its origins, or the chef's own experience with it The more personal touches from Chef Carlos Sotomayor are the strongest points of interest, and his passion for his native foods is evident.
New Peruvian fine dining rest Ekeko is offering an opening promotion for their 8-course Peruvian menu for the month of April. 20% discount per order (usually 488rmb). They're open Monday to Saturday from 5.30pm. Reservations recommended.
