Three years old and counting Mural Bar is a mainstay on the Shanghai nightlife scene and a great destination for International music (anything from salsa to hip hop to reggae), which they feature most nights of the week. They also invented the 100rmb all-you-can drink special, which they still offer on Fridays. Cavernous setting with a medium-sized dance floor and ample seating.
Ah yes, Mural on a Friday night, the undoubted central right of passage for every young expat making their way to Shanghai. For 100RMB, you get to drink all night in an environment that attempts to be as esoteric, yet comfortable as you dreamed your journey to China could be. Like the silk road towns of the past, where travelers would taste the Orient without having to penetrate too deeply into strange lands, Mural proposes to be such a destination. Go ahead, lounge around on plush couches, dialogue with your friends at long tables, get crazy on one of the old opium den style beds in the back. For the full experience, try puffing on a hookah (80RMB). Remember you’re never too far from something familiar. You’ll hear your native tongue; you’ll see familiar looking faces. But still, on the walls, and in the crowd, there’s something different and distinctive that you know brought you halfway across the world. Of course, it could be all the booze you’ve been drinking. How many rounds of shots was that again? No matter, as the night wears on, and you hear the DJ mashing up old funk and soul records from the 70’s, that strange feeling of comforting difference heats up. Look all around, get funky, pull someone close to you if you dare. This place is a feast.
Wonderful thursday! I love the reggae singer who came from Middle Africa. Buy one get one free whole night, the drinks attract people too. See you next thursday...
mural has a new line-up. monday and saturday are dedicated to salsa lover's wih the band AZUQUITA playing all night long.
Thursday's are reggae nights at mural with a live reggae band RASTA TRIBE getting down to business with some rasta vibes. iron like a lion in zion.
saturday nights are also ladies night with free flow cosmopolitans for the ladies and great drinks specials for those not into cosmos.
the rest of the week mural bar is a quiet place to chill with your friends whether the relationship be platonic or strictly confidential.
friday nights are MADNESS!! it gets nice and cosy at mural with RMB100 open bar and great djs from all over the planet funking it up to put you in the mood.
drinks are sourced from authorised suppliers and mixed to perfection by our dynamic bar staff before being served to you by the friendly, helpful wait staff.

well what can say. friday night was action packed. with the RMB100 kuai special how could it not be packed? so fridays impression was good and i decided to go back to Mural on the monday (after i was given a flyer on friday). well monday was packed with a salsa crowd (not my kinda thing) but they had a free drinks special so i stayed for on or 2 of those. anyway went back on the thursday night (no i'm not a stalker) and checked out reggae night. it was cool (good tunes) but the ladies were in short supply and i recommend Mural put a special on for the ladies (not all lasses drink beer). anyway cool place, and the vip area is sweet for a secret rendezvous. check it out especially on friday I DARE YOU!!
Nothing special but as most of bars suck in shanghai, Mural is one of them. The only positive thing is the price: 100 kuai. You will not drink as much as you can because you will not get into the bar.

Perhaps some patrons get too drunk for their own good on Friday nights at Mural, but the bouncers beating up customers with chains? That's a bit excessive. The 100 yuan cover charge is only worth it when you don't spend the rest of the night and the rest of your cash in the hospital. Careful not to piss the staff off.
If you are looking for a crowded place to get drunked for just 12 bucks then you are looking for a Mural Bar on Fridays. If you are looking for a stylish nice Bar then you are looking for Mural on any other day, not Friday. I like Mural, and all is true about the management and the custumer's care. But. If Your party is a Dancing party, then you have to know - there is no place for it in Mural on Fridays. And what is the mess upstairs? Whith all my respect to the owner, this is...

hey! it s me again....just want to thanks thomas and woody for their work every friday night. Mural it s one of the best place in shanghai if you want to have a great party and a good time. good quality service and drinks. if you need anythings just ask thomas the new manager, he allways give his best to satisfy the customers needs and he is a very good guy. I realy enjoy this place and i advise every people in shanghai to go there. thank you MURAL!!!
Woooooooooa!! Just a sign for one of the best bars of everytime!! Shanghai without Mural's won't be Shanghai... Every week drink and smiles are present (thanks to Thomas and his staff for this) to help you to have a night party!!! Never change!!

Now, that I am finally back to switzerland I really want to take the chance to write this comment about the Mural Bar. And before you have to read for a longtime:
STOP SEARCHING FOR ANOTHER PLACE, SIMPLY GOT TO MURAL BAR!
Get to know Carsten, one of the owners, and immediately you will recognize: This is probably one of the best places in whole Shanghai.
I have been treated in MURAL BAR like at home, and most of all, it's a wonderfull place, with wonderfull staff and wonderfull guests in a very highclass decoration.
Go Mural and you'll never want to go back home............
