La Verbena is a Spanish restaurant perched on the banks of the Huang Pu River. The glass building and extensive riverside decking offer spectacular views of the city and The Bund, especially during the evening, La Verbena revamped itself with a new Catalan concept. Recently remodelled by Spanish Architect Santi Parramon.

Fantastic location, the terrace is perfect for romantic dinner. But the best thing about this place is the food.

Me and my friends came all the way to this place for dinner as we heard so much good things about it. The place has a great view (overlooking the bund), nice outdoor seating, excellent tapas, but afterall, restaurant business is about both food and service. While we were impressed by the creativity of the dishes and also the variety, we were not impressed with the service. While we were giving some feedback to the manager hoping that he would take that as feedback from customers, he was extremely defensive and in fact pretty rude in his response; it's a shame that he didn't get the point. The chef came to speak to us and listened well, and we were appreciative about his effort. But no matter how great the food is, our evening was spoiled and I would not consider coming back any more. Talking about good tapas, we would know where to head to next time, but will be in puxi instead.

I went here recently with friends and thought overall, everything was very well executed and service was pleasant and fairly prompt. There wasn't 1 bad dish in the lot... and we ordered a lot of dishes! The food was creative, up-scale tapas. Some might find it a bit pricey for the portion size, but it was fully worth it, in my opinion. Additionally, when the weather is nice, eating outdoors there is a true pleasure.
It may be better for a date or with friends rather than a business dinner - tapas are meant for sharing, and it could be a bit uncomfortable to split some of the dishes with business associates.
I am looking forward to going back, and can only hope that La Verbana is consistently good
