Cotton's chilled-out villa atmosphere is also the place to go if you're not used to Chinese food and don't plan on becoming acclimated. They've done a good job of creating a pretty spot deep within the French Concession where foreigners can feel like they are in Any City. The outdoor dining area recently became a covered patio. Sunday brunch.
Cotton's. A mosquito farm where they serve old(bad) wine and when you argue for a replacement, you get another glass of undrinkable swill. Never again.
We've been here several times, always enjoying the nice location and ambience. This time though we went for a sunday lunch in the spring sun, and were really disappointed. Our food came in without too much of a delay, but not according to what we ordered: the hamburger came with fires instead of the ordered side salad and both the greek salads came without the specified yoghurt dressing. As we pointed out the misstake and asked to get the dressing on the side, we were quickly served a little bowle of mayonaise instead. More severely, the salads were tiny and with expremely small amounts of olives and chesse (and tomato). Basically we got a bit of iceberg sallad for 35 rmb... The mosarella and tomato sandwich, the only food that came as ordered, was eualy bad; the cheese was not the delicious slices of mosarella we expected, but barely enough cream cheese to moisten the cold bread.
So all in all the food is not very tasty, comes in small servings and very overpriced. Go here for a drink instead!
Have been a regular at Cotton抯 for a number of weeks now, love the music and the ambiance of the place. Rare that the music is too loud as conversation amongst friends is the main point. Like going to a house party, but what a house! The service has always been excellent and so are the cocktails, do try.
Nice atmosphere with the fireplaces, cozy and warm! But... went there Saturday night with a girl friend. Was on the 2/F it was extremely noisy, music too loud, no way that you can understand what your partner's saying unless you're 5cm to each others. The service was so so, had a bottle of wine totally frozen... Have to try again during the week.
