The Jinmao Tower is the eighty-eight story skyscraper in Pudong's financial district, Lujiazui. It's not the tallest building in Shanghai anymore -- the Shanghai World Financial Center, known affectionately as "the bottle opener", owns that title for the time being (a taller tower is under construction across the street). It is, however, perhaps the most elegant and striking skyscraper in Shanghai. The auspicious number eight plays deeply in its fundamental design, modeled after eight, eight-sided pagodas stacked on top of each other. The Grand Hyatt occupies floors 53-87; Grade A office space and Fortune 500 companies occupy the rest.
