Acceptably-priced Italian joint in the French Concession with minimal frills and pretty good pizza. Colabo is located in a renovated house pushed back at the end of a tree-studded lane.

For some reason I never thought that the restaurant above the Dragon is any good. I don't know why and I also did not read a lot of reviews about it. Well, I was wrong. I have been there 5 or 6 times in the last 2 months and it was always good Italian food at a very reasonable price.
The Pizza almost reaches the Casanova benchmark, the pasta dishes are all very good, the salad is fresh and the grilled meat & fish dishes do not only taste good, they are pretty large as well. Especially their lunch deal is excellent: Salad + Pizza or Pasta for 45 RMB! I found better Italian food in Shanghai, but at much higher prices and one other strong point of Colabo is that it is very consistent. It's not fancy, but a great place for a weekend lunch. Two thumbs up!
