I went to Mediterraneo with my wife and best friend who is an expat laowai from Florence, Italy. He's very particular about Italian so we went with our fingers crossed hoping for the best. Guess what? Finally - we unamimously agreed - a restaurant in Shanghai that charges western prices with the service and food to match. Time and again we've been disappointed with foreign restaurants with bad service and sub-standard food but charging western prices. But not Meditteraneo. The food and service exceeded our expectations and we will definitely go back again. My only suggestion to chef Valter? PLEASE, when dishes are served have serving spoons or utensils on the platters so we can properly help ourselves. Otherwise, 5 stars!

We had dinner in a group of 5 and we a left very all very satisfied. Beautiful garden, friendly service and great food. We had a bottle of wine (+one beer for me), we shared 3 starters and had a main dish each (more of the 80rmb categorie which is Pizza and Pasta, not the 300rmb categorie for meat and fish dishes) and we ended up with a total bill of 1000 rmb, that's 200 each - a very fair prize for a nice dining experience. My Pizza was one of the best Pizza's that I've had outside of Italy. We'll all be back for sure. Word's on the street that the upstairs area will be changed into a trendy lounge, can't wait to see that happening.

I had dinner there with a quite international(Taiwan,Malaysia,France and Italy) bunch of friends. We were unanimous to say that neither the food (don't be lured by the pretentious menu, what you get in your plate is AVERAGE) nor the service can justify the western standards prices. Go there only if you can enjoy a table in the very nice garden (great atmosphere, difficult to find better in Shanghai), otherwise it would be a bad deal.

To say I was impressed with the remodel and ambiance upon entering the garden is an understatement! The garden and veranda are worth the trip to Mediterraneo, not to mention the incredible food. The tuna tartar and caprese salads, be they staples, are presented with the utmost of care and detail, and packed full of flavor. A bit on the pricey side, but you are in one of the most expensive cities in the world and enjoying a true work of art in the detailed remodel of one of the most impressive garden villas in all of Shanghai.

Not sure why so many good reviews for this place and why so many people there when we went. I agree with foodlover. Went there for Sunday brunch and they had really small buffet selection. Service was usual Chinese comedy of errors, while food was very sub-standard. As usual another restaurant in Shanghai positioning itself as upscale yet failing to deliver the foods. Only worth going there to have a drink in the nice garden. After 3 years in Shanghai my conclusion is that if you want good food avoid anywhere expensive.

Went there for lunch/brunch today. Nice place. I love the style of this restaurant. Very well decorated and designed. Friendly floor staff. The brunch menu offers for RMB 198 some starters from a buffet, different Mains to choose from, and desserts form buffet again. Including one soft drink and coffee or tea. The food quality was surprisingly disappointing. Very small selection at the buffet. The main courses shocking poor executed. The quality is worst than in any average coffee shop. This supposed to be an upscale Italian/European restaurant?? Sorry, but food wise it is just a joke. We won抰 come back again.

I had this brunch at Mediterraneo and It is a very nice place where you can relax with family and friends. They have nice furnishing, clean bathrooms and good staffs. But the food is not as good as i expected considering it to be quite pricey. Salads and starters were a bit ok but try to work on your breads and mains.

I had a very nice dinner there last Friday. It seems that they just changed the Chef. Menu becomes bigger and that horrible 3-week marinated duck was finally removed. The Pasta is much better than before. And my favourite Tiramisu is still there the same :-) I'll be there again anyway...
