Tucked away in the center of Shanghai, right next to Portman-Ritz Carlton and Plaza 66 provides Southern Italian cuisine. Bella Napoli's menu has an array of salads, antipasti, home-made pastas. Lunch sets available.

In searching for a moderately upscale yet reasonably-priced Italian restaurant, I decided on Bella Napoli after browsing their very professional website, which includes menu with prices.
Environment reminded me of a restaurant or bistro in any major European city - dimmer lighting at night, cozy/cramped seating depending on interpretation, classy yet simple decor (no gaudiness!). My date had an excellent lasagna. I had pesto and basil pasta and felt the pesto was a little lacking in flavor - will try a house specialty next time. Both mains were served to us at once, which doesn't seem to happen often in China and was much appreciated.
Overall: Great value, inviting atmosphere, only drawback is lack of privacy for conversation. Recommend for parties of 1 or 2; children would likely draw dirty looks due to close seating.

The first thing one notices is how small this place is. Not that I mind small places, but at least make it cozy - the faint noise of the conditioning system next to my table and the photos of Toto on the wall were not exactly what I was longing for while eating my pasta... However the food is pretty good (try the fresh home-made pasta) and the wine list is interesting. What is REALLY interesting are the prices: probably the best deal for Italian food in Shanghai. And the fact of having the Italian owner coming to greet you and offering you a glass of Limoncello at the end of the dinner makes up for the decor.

Had a good dinner last week on this italian restaurant. I am italian and i've to say that flavors are really genuine, pasta is great and ...bread was awesome! never had a tasty bread as that one in China!
Service is great as well; the only weak-point is that tables, in my opinions, are too close to each other.
Bill was ok, although maybe Da Marco is a little bit cheaper.
I'll be back.
